2011 - LSU and Les Miles lost 21-0 to Bama. Point differential of 21

This wasn't really a blow-out. on the scoreboard, But it was on the field.

For me, there is little Les could ever do that would atone for the pitiful job he did preparing for and coaching that game. He should've never let ESPN corner him into saying he would replay Bama in the first place. I think everyone here agrees he sure as hell should have at least tried something different.

There are damn few shots at winning it all. To completely lay an egg like that, especially against Bama, is unforgiveable.

Did Miles have a poor gameplan and get blown out in the championship?
Saban's defense held LSU to just 92 yards and zero points, the first shutout in the BCS's 14-year, 62-game history. LSU crossed midfield just once, with 7:58 remaining in the game.
Still waiting for a coherent explanation as to what the hell happened. CLM - in my doghouse until that day comes.

Saw my first LSU game in 1959 - never embarrassed to be an LSU fan - until then...

the FACT is that every coach gets blown out sometimes, at any level and in every sport. some of LSU fans hold our football coach to an impossible standard. to be fair though it should be remembered that after our '07 NC our team did go downhill for awhile. our OL recruiting and turnover was atrocious and i'm surprised that the OL coach was not fired earlier. that and our QB troubles led to a couple of pretty bad offensive teams. it's amazing how many games we won on defense and special teams.

While i agree to an extent, saban is at fault here. 2004 lack of oline recruiting, 2005 lack of recruiting period. So what happens 3-4 years later with your jrs and rs jrs? 2008. miles loaded up with bodies in 2006 and some did not pan out, but i think that was more because 1) the trailing off from saban leaving and 2) the hurricanes leaving Les to go looking elsewhere than the hot bed that is southeast LA.

Guys we hired the best coach possible after saban left and he has done everything to keep us moving and i still think he has one more in him before he is done.

The recruiting differential really showed up in that game.

Huh? It wasn't Kentucky vs. Bama. The amount of talent LSU had on the field was stunning too. We had some offensive lineman that had big injuries, etc., so we could have had more draft picks on offense as well. Wing was one of the best punters in the land that year as well.

NFL Players that played in that game for LSU:

Offense
Odell Beckham - 1st Round (13th pick)
R. Randle - 2nd Round
Jarvis Landry - 2nd Round
James Wright - 7th Round
Spencer Ware - 6th Round
Alfred Blue - 6th Round

Defense
Eric Reid - 1st Round
Mo Claiborne - 1st Round (6th pick)
Mingo - 1st Round (6th pick)
Michael Brockers - 1st Round
Kevin Minter - 2nd Round
Ego Ferguson - 2nd Round
Honey Badger (Heisman Finalist) - 3rd Round (most likely would've been a 1st-rounder)
Brandon Taylor - 3rd Round
Sam Montgomery - 3rd Round
Bennie Logan - 3rd Round
Ron Brooks - 4th Round
Lamin Barrow - 5th Round
Lavar Edwards - 5th Round
Tharold Simon - 5th Round

I'm more satisfied about that year, than I would be if I was a Bama fan last year, yes.

You wont find many people to openly admit it on here, but your post is pretty accurate representing a large number of Tiger faithful. Until Miles takes the head-to-head series back vs Saban and wins another championship in the process, the sting of 1/9/2012 will remain, and Bama fans will keep on acting like Bama fans. Rubbing nuts on LSU fans, shooting LSU fans, throwing out "21-0" everytime an LSU fan attempts to have a reasonable discussion.

Playing in a national championship game is embarrassing? For someone that's been watching LSU football for 50+ years, you clearly have selective memory. That same coach who was across the field from miles lost a game to UAB. UAB. That is more than embarrassing.

And I'm sure Les is concerned that he's in your doghouse.

After that game I honestly think I have learned to not be so emotionally attached. I don't let lsu and saints games destroy the entire next week of my life. I try to find joy in it now. I hate bye weeks as much as loses now because I just enjoy football.

Most don't feel this way. Most are disappointed with 2011 NC loss, but most have moved on and are very satisfied with the results Les has achieved while here. I love it when people admit they're not pleased with Miles. Makes it easier to identify the retards of our fan base.

We were down 15-0 going into the 4th quarter. That's it. And yet the score may as well have been 95-0. I wish I could have been there to shake every players hand on that defensive squad and tell them what an amazing job they did, and then turn around and look at the offensive coaches and say wtf...

I'll go ahead and say that the difference in a game between two squads has never been so drastic ever before in the history of football. Our defensive team was so dominant, so skilled, and so relentless in their pursuit its hard to fathom. And our offense....where to even begin?

That loss freaking hurt. I was at Auburn in '06 and that hurt. But not like this. Thank God I didn't buy a ticket to this game. Just such a sour pill to swallow.

I love LSU and I'm all on board for 2014. I like Miles and I think he's a good coach. But something happened at the end of that 2011 season, and it hurt the Tiger Nation. It wasn't just losing to Bama on a huge national stage. It was that we didn't even make it a game. Nobody else on your list laid a goose egg. I'd be willing to bet that we are in very short company if not completely alone in the scoring of 0 points in a NC game.

And I digress.....
