you're right, LSU is only a miracle goal line stand better than a 5-7 MSU team and only 8 pts better than a 4-8 La Tech team. GTFO

What Saban has done the last 2 years is special in the SEC
I think what Saban has done in the SEC the past 2 years is completely over-rated. The SEC has been down the last 2 years. Yes, that includes LSU. Arkansas has a coach that had to rebuild that program after Nutty left. Auburn is not nearly what they used to be. Moo State is Moo State.
In 2008 Alabama started the season playing an over-rated Georgia team, in 2009 an over-rated Va. Tech team. The only good team that Alabama has beaten in the last 2 years was Florida last year.
Outside of Florida and Alabama, what team is good in the SEC rigt now...by SEC standards.

BTW-players' effort & performance is not the only indicator of what a coach gets out of his team.
What the coaches do has a lot to do with it also (game plan, game mgt, clock mgt, personnel choices).

Actually...the performance of last years team was better than the performance of the '08 team....so thats not a slide.

But that's even more of a condemnation of CLM that LSU has gone .500 during that time.
How can it not be?

100+ ranked offense
Ole Miss debacle
Penn State clock screw up
La Tech
Miss State
& on & on
Again, name one game last year other than AU that LSU performed at a very high level.
I'm not saying to name 10 or 7 or 5.
I'm saying name 2.
Can't do it b/c they're not there.
The performance is not getting any better.

For God's sake, CLM is a national laughing stock. His clock mismanagements are legendary. His lack of player development is well noted. ON & ON.
5 Years ago...did you know who Les Miles was? Today, Les Miles is one of the most Contoversial & Maligned Football Coaches in the College Game.
Right now his "The Mad Hatter on the Hot Seat" & "Les Miles: One Goofy Bastard" stories are getting more Publicity than Bama's Championship, and his agent (Not Jimmy Sexton), is likely seeing dollar signs.
What say we bring this thread back in 1..maybe 2 seasons?

Some people don't understand that LSU has the potential to play at this high level every week and that Les Miles is not getting the most out of this team.
But what irks me most is that the things we did very well against Auburn, we didn't see again. For example, Jefferson threw two TD passes on fade routes, we didn't see those plays again. Also, Jefferson actually ran very well from designed QB draw plays, we didn't see that play again. Yet we continued to run the option. Those are the ones I can think of. I'm sure there are more.

Then why is the great Les Miles .500 against the same opposition over the same 2 years?
What does this say about Les, if you wish to diminish Saban's record the last 2 years as having been achieved in a down time for SEC football?
You have argued yourself into a black hole trying to defend Les Miles.

So you admit that LSU wasn't a good team the past two years? But yet Miles is still doing a good job?

bama
The performance at QB and overall defense were much better than in '08. With better o-line play this year we will be a much improved team.

Maybe I am misinterpreting, but are you saying that being mocked by the national media is actually improving Miles' earning potential?

Um - an undefeated TX team that was beating teams bu HUGE margins through most of the year. The won the championship, say what you will about what it took to get there, but they won it all and went undefeated doing it and controlled their own fate getting there without having to rely on other teams choking.
&, before you bring the McCoy argument, they would have run a totally different offense had McCoy not gone down, they ran prevent offense after that.

Do not discredit Saban. He did something the last two years that Miles will never do in his entire coaching career. Miles couldn't even go undefeated even with the teams of 2006 or 2007. STFU with your stupid bullshite about SEC being down the last 2 years. We are 8-8 the last two years in the SEC.
Also, don't forget Saban put LSU back on the map. Miles can't do shite with elite talent. What makes you think he could build from what Saban had to build.

I agree with you - he's definitely one of the most talked about Coaches in America right now. I'm just not so sure that the type of talk America is doing will land him another HC job as good as the one he currently has - even if LSU has a good season this year.
