Y'all are rediclous. If you have such a problem with it being a family event, then go someplace else. This is the way LSU Phoenix decided to do it and nobody is forcing you to go.
I can't imagine that any of the bars outside the stadium don't have Sunday ticket.

Bus to the game is from Arcadia Tavern, the Saints bar in the area. $20 or $25 to and from stadium with Abita on the bus. Advance reservations are required, call asap if you want to ride b/c the buses are probably close to full. Arcadia is near Old Town Scottsdale.

Lots of Saints fans meeting at Saddle Ranch Chop House in Westgate before the game. It is within walking distance of the game.
Per LSU Phoenix email.

We will be having a special View-In for the Florida game due to the large contingent of Saints fans that will be coming to town for the Arizona Cardinals vs. New Orleans Saints game on Sunday October 10th.

Due to the large attendance expected, please let us know if you are coming to the View-In and how many will be in your party. RSVP by email to Kim Tovrea, kim.tovrea@greatcajuncookoff.com.

The Florida game View-In will be at Alice Cooper's Town in downtown Phoenix. This will be a fun filled family event with special menu items (just for cajun food lovers), live entertainment and a DJ, balloon artists, kids crafts and face painting for all the kids (that's big and little kids).

Alice Cooper's Town is offering to make the gumbo and jambalaya they feature at the Great Cajun Cookoff. They will also have Abita Springs beer and a Bloody Mary Bar. This will be a great event for everyone so plan to join us for the LSU - Florida game.

Alice Cooper's Town is located at the corner of 1st Street and Jackson Street near the US Airways Center. Parking is available onsite directly behind Cooper's Town.

If you don't have a tailgate to go to, a large group is planning to meet at Saddle Ranch Chop House. They open at 9am, table fills up early at all places in Westgate, but they have a few large bar areas where people can gather.

Saddle Ranch is located in the Westgate City Center next to the Jobbing.com Arena and across the street from The University of Phoenix Stadium

Don't forget, if you are looking for a place to watch the LSU game, the LSU Alumni association is planning a big party with bands, kids entertainment, cajun food, abita, etc at Alice Cooperstown in Downtown Phoenix. Details at lsuphoenix.org.

Seriously - if I am the Cowboys, why do I want Saban? The Cowboys need a proven winner to come in and fix things, they want to win now, why would they take a chance on a great college coach who failed terribly as an NFL coach, instead of going out and getting a proven NFL coach. I don't think they are in a position to take chances.

Also, Jones & Saban are both control freaks, I'm not sure how well they would mesh.

Honestly - why would the Cowboys want him? If I was a Cowboys fan I would not be excited about taking a chance on hiring Saban.

The reason I'd like to see Saban leave Bama is not for reducing Bama's staus or increasing LSU's possibilities to beating Bama. It's to show a few Bama fans I know that Saban will always look at the next offer and consider it. Saban isn't a Bama Fan. He's a Bama coach getting paid for a job that he does well. If Jerry Jones comes a calling, Saban will listen and consider his offer. Also, if he does not like the Cowboys offer, Saban will use it as leverage for more money from Bama. Personally, I think Saban will be interested in second try at the one thing he was not successful

I think this is pretty much any coach out there these days. There are a few exceptions, but most are looking out for themselves.

Arcadia Tavern is awesome for Saints games, they have a really big crowd, a DJ originally from La plays most of the big games and brings all our favorite NOLA/Saints musuc, and they stock Abita. It was wild for the playoffs, dancing on tables, second lining, etc. If you are on Facebook, join the group for details. LINK

They have been trying to get LSU to watch there, but they haven't been there for a game yet. It looks like they are trying to move it around some this year to other bars, but haven't been to Arcadia yet. They are talking of doing this game downtown near the baseball stadium at Alice Cooperstown, but I agree, Old Town would have been nice with so many out of towners staying close by. Check their website for details when it is finalized, lsuphoenix.org
Be sure to email Kim and let her know if you are planning to attend the LSU view in in Downtown Phoenix so she has a head count, kim.tovrea@greatcajuncookoff.com. They are likely moving it, but need to try to get an idea if there is enough interest.

Live here and catching bus from the Saints bar in the area, Arcadia Tavern, to the game and back. Hoping to get out there early to tailgate and then celebrate after the game back at AT. If anyone is staying near Old Town Scottsdale and wants to ride the bus to/from the game, it is $20 and includes beer, likely Abita, on the bus. Advance reservations are required, their contact info is on their website, www.arcadiatavern.com.

The local LSU Alumni chapter is organizing a view in party for the LSU/FL game. Since they are expecting a larger than normal crowd due to the Saints, they are thinking of hosting it at a place in Downtown Phoenix that will get a band, etc. Details are still being finalized and will be posted on their website, lsuphoenix.org. Email kim.tovrea@greatcajuncookoff.com if you are planning to go, they are trying to get a headcount so they know if they should move to the larger location.

Most of the points of interest are near Old Town Scottsdale. You need to decide if you want to be by the staudium or the main attractions, there isn't much out there by the stadium except for the stadium and bars around it. The bar where the Saints fans watch near Old Town does run buses from the bar to the stadium if you don't want to drive. Personally, if I am going all the way to AZ, I want to see some other things while there and prefer to be in Scottsdale.

That is also the weekend of the LSU/FL game & I think the local LSU chapter is planning a pretty big party in downtown Phoenix.
It seemed that Bama totally called off the dogs in the 4th quarter. Richardson wasn't running with nearly the same intensity.
I would say the Rose Bowl was about 50/50 as well. When I arrived at the airport in LA I thought it was at least 75/25 TX, but when I got in the game it was about 50/50. I was also in the SWA terminal and SWA is very popular in TX, so that could have had something to do with it.

I also went in 2000 and I heard the numbers were about 30,000. Either way, there were TONS of Bama fans across the country for a regular season bowl game. The true test of how you travel is how many show up for games that are far away. Ie, LSU in Omaha, nobody comes close to that.
quote:

ok, then without shula saban doesn't win a championship at bama.... without ron zook urban meyer doesn't win any championships. Saban is winning with shulas players.
The difference is that Shula & Zook couldn't get those players to perform well enough to win with them. Miles took over a program that was already winning, which makes it easier to maintain.

re: Auburn or Alabama?

quote:

Can't speak for other states, but from a state of Georgia perspective, Auburn is more attractive. Lots of kids from my high school went to Auburn...about 3 went to Alabama.

B/c Auburn is about 20 minutes from the GA line and AL is 2-3 hours from the GA line.

I think each school has it's strengths, AL law school and business school are very good, AU has a good vet school and engineering school.

But, let's be realistic here, while each SEC school has it's strengths, I don't really think is is fair to talk about one being a lesser school, with the exception of Vandy & FL, they are all overall about the same with strengths in certain programs, but most of them are generally about even. With the exception of certain programs, most of the SEC aren't schools you brag about going to for academic reasons.
quote:

Auburn has a very strong national alumni base. I've met people in almost every state I've been to who have graduated from Auburn.
I think everyone can say this, I've met people from every SEC school in pretty much every state, it isn't any sort of scientific fact that means one has s stronger base.
quote:

The only good team that Alabama has beaten in the last 2 years was Florida last year.

Um - an undefeated TX team that was beating teams bu HUGE margins through most of the year. The won the championship, say what you will about what it took to get there, but they won it all and went undefeated doing it and controlled their own fate getting there without having to rely on other teams choking.

&, before you bring the McCoy argument, they would have run a totally different offense had McCoy not gone down, they ran prevent offense after that.
I think you need to keep in mind the state of the programs when comparing records. It really isn't a fair comparison when one took over a struggling program and had to rebuild and one took over a program in great shape.
quote:

I want Les Miles to succeed simply because it means success for LSU. Don't really care who the coach is, and frankly don't see a lot of people I would replace Les with to be honest. I want Les to succeed but I just don't have a lot of faith from what I have seen the last two seasons

This is my point exactly. The records the past 2 years haven't been awful, but if you look at the wins, sometime it took miracles to beat some pretty bad teams. Yea, all that matters is that they won. But, you have to wonder if things are going in the right direction when we are having to rely on this to beat teams with FAR less talent. Every team needs some luck on their side every now and then, but I just question if things are going in the right direction when it takes that to beat teams that clearly shouldn't even be in the game past the 2nd quarter.

I see too many sloppy mistakes and stupid penalties, I don't see the players improving as much as they should be, the big names come, but they aren't developing as well as they should and the QB situation has been a problem for a few years now, he needs to go out and recruit someone who can play and fix it ASAP. JJ shouldn't even still be in the equation at this point, he should have found far better options in the years since he enrolled.
Sorry, but I think GA was AWFUL last year. Did you watch them play - I watched several games and they were terrible, maybe they improved a little for the bowl, but they were awful during the regular season. Yea, they were 4-4 in SEC, but SEC was somewhat down last year and they didn't have victories over any of the better teams last year, it isn't like they beat FL or AL, the beat SC, Arkansas, Vandy and a decent AU team - but that is a HUGE rivalry and the better team doesn't always win rivalry games.

My point is just it if the program was as good as it use to be, we would have beat the bad teams easily. Yea, even the best of teams have off weeks and need to come from behind to win, but LSU had to do it too many times and while the won, it doesn't appear that the ship is heading in the right direction or that the captain knows where he is going. Yea, we have QB problems, but Miles is responsible for recruiting a good QB.

"In 09 LSU was 9-3 in the regular season, 3rd in the SEC, and nationally ranked."

The problem with 09 was that it took heroics to beat some really, really bad teams, ie GA & Tech. Yes, they won and that is all that matters, but the perception is that things aren't going in the right direction when it takes miraculous plays to beat a clearly awful GA team, a come from behind victory to beat Tech, etc.
One of the big differences is the state of the program when the coach took over. When Miles took over LSU, the program was STACKED and left in great shape. His record has gotten worse over time and the program does not appear to be in as good of shape as when he took over.

Some of the other coaches took over programs that were struggling and had coaches that couldn't coach the exsting talent to win, and they turned it around, improved the players they had on the roster, brought in highly regarded players and things are still looking up for those teams.
Why get Cajun Food outside of La when you live in Cajun Country? Of course it is not going to be nearly as good as in La, stick with what the locals eat.
They travel, but they aren't given anywhere near the number of tickets that college teams get to away games, so fans have to purchase resale. &,as others said, outside of divisional games, many of the games are pretty far and expensive.
I should note, they are both seafood markets to go and not sit down restaurants. Frankie & Johnny is the only uptown restaurant I can think of uptown that serves them, but I wouldn't go there. Oh yea, there is a seafood restaurant in the strip mall next to Camelia Grill with Walgrees, but I am blanking on the name.
Big Fisherman on Magazine near Lousiana, diagonal from Nacho Mama and Bulldog. If you are on the Claiborne side of Uptwon, KJeans in Mid-City on Carrolton, near Vinezia.
Thanks! Is the place that made it still around? Do you have the contact info?
Does anyone know where to purchase commercial size crawfish pots that can cook several hundred pounds at once? We are having a large charity boil out of state and are bringing a caterer in to cook em, but it would be great if we could find a pot that cooks several hundred pounds at once to be able to have someone local cook them.

Thanks!
