So after a little debate...
FB-Jimmy Taylor
TE-David Lafleur
G-Alan Faneca
C-Kevin Mawae
DT-Glenn Dorsey
DT-Anthony "Booger" McFarland
LB-Michael Brooks
CB-PP7
S-LaRon Landry
S-Tommy Casanova
Hey older Tigers...what? No Mike Anderson on this list?

I'm rethinking my own post.....Henry Thomas played 13 years in the NFL too. Forgot about Henry.
Did he have the absolute best career at LSU? More than any other DT?
Reason I ask, is because Wade Richey was nothing but raw power at LSU...not a really great kicker until he got to SF...So I wouldn't think he'd be in the argument along with Browndyke, David, etc.

OK...RB and WR are out of the discussion...there are too many great ones.
False. Josh Reed's statistics blow every other LSU receiver out of the water.
From wikipedia:
While at LSU, Reed was one of the most productive receivers in college football. In only two years as a wide receiver (his freshman year he played running back for most of the season and he declared for the NFL draft after his junior season) he rewrote the SEC record books. He holds the SEC record for receiving yardage in a game (293 vs. Alabama in 2001) and season (1,740 in 2001). He also held the career receiving yardage record with 3,001 yards until 2002 when the record was broken by Georgia receiver Terrence Edwards. Reed also holds the SEC season record for receiving yardage per game (145.0 in 2001) and is second in the career receiving yardage per game (96.8).
He set the SEC career receiving record IN TWO SEASONS. Think of the receivers who have come through the SEC and what it means to dominate them statistically.
There should be no discussion regarding the best receiver.

Nearly three full pages and no one has brought up Big Ben Wilkerson at center?
The guy was phenomenal. Starting at center as a true freshman is virtually unheard of, and he was a rock from his first snap.
Too bad he wrecked his knee on the play of a blowout win over Vandy. Thinking about that still pisses me off.

We're also leaving out Warren Capone from LB. He would have to be the 2nd consensus LB for me.
Mike Brooks and Capone.
Capone was a 2 time All America LB.

Had a lot of good centers. Albergamo, Mawae, Wilkerson. It's not an easy position to find a "consensus best."

He definitely was a great Center. I loved watching him play. He was definitely the leader of that O Line...
But let's be realistic...nobody is going to put him over Kevin Mawae

I think the only ones we have had a consensus on are:
G-Alan Faneca
LB-Michael Brooks
CB-PP7
S-LaRon Landry
S-Tommy Casanova
I think I could make an argument or at least know that others would argue on all other positions. The guys above would be difficult for any knowledgable fans to argue against.
Mawae was close, but I had a feeling Wilkerson would come up eventually. If only talking about LSU careers, I can at least understand this argument.

Hands down, without a doubt, close the book and \thread.
The ONLY 3-time All-America at LSU.

I don't think we can really question Dorsey's selection either, given the awards that he won.

Only because Kevin Mawae is one of the alltime greats in the entire sport at that position.

Michael Brooks. Those that say he wasn't the best likely never saw him play.
Bevan and Bradie James were close, but I tend to agree. LSU has had a good number of great LBers and a whole host of good ones. Michael Brooks was the very best. He was "Derrick Thomas" (RIP) good, which is my standard for NCAA linebacking.
DT is the only Bama player I was, am or ever will be a fan of.

Ok...Process of Elimination. These are the only players that no one has disputed...
Faneca
Dorsey
Brooks
Casanova
And dare I say Josh Reed.

Johnnie Robinson at safety. Great pro career also.

Crap...and PP7. My bad

I don't know how Tommy Banks is consensus better than Jimmy Taylor - I think you'd get an argument there.

I'm interested to hear the conversation about Kicker.
In my opinion it's Browndyke. But David can't be ignored.

Casanova was a great athlete like PP besides playin DB, those 2 are the best ever at their positions! Laron was good I would say, but not a great athlete like those 2, Laron good only hit, he's still learning how to cover WR's!
