Anybody that knows anything about Basketball, players and historians included, knows that it's Curry. PP isn't even in the discussion. LSU fans always overrates their own

i'm not going to dig through statistics to pull it. there are so many of them.
curry has taken more 3s. made more, at a higher rate of efficiency than even spot up shooters like mark price and steve kerr.
i love pete. i grew up watching pete's games and had all of his videos. i continue to do so to this day.
pete's hook shot. set shot. jump shot. banker. pivot moves were all better than curry. and he could do it at any time from any spot on the floor. at any time. and would.
that said, this is not the question. curry is a better shooter in the nba. and it's not close. and maybe even in college. in game shooting, curry is the best ever.
now maybe we're going to critique whether or not maravich in today's game would take the shots he took. but then you get into the question on whether or not a 6'5 guy like maravich gets his shot off in today's hyper athletic NBA.
i got maravich in HORSE (horse all star game champion)
and curry in a 3 point contest

Maravich was a great pro. He was a better college player, however.

Yep. This thread is embarrassing
It's a byproduct of being nostalgic.

Had "we" seen Bob Cousy?
This is a weird thread.

considering that cousy was a much better dribbler than shooter who NEVER in his whole career shot better than 39% from the field without 3 pointers, i think it's safe to say he's not in this discussion for best shooter of all time.

Pete Maravich - but it's close. Pete could literally hit at will from 20 feet in
Pete shot 44.1% in his NBA career. If he made almost everything from 20 feet in, then he must have really sucked from long range if he averaged 44% for his career
Steph's a career 44.3% shooter from long range. So his 3 point shooting is better than Pete's career shooting average.
Curry was also the better shooter in college. It was not even close
This thread is a joke.

I bet not a single one of you watched curry destroy the best defense in league. Oh yea that's right. Bc none of you have watched NBA in years and want to talk basketball like you have a clue

This is a pure homer thread. Curry will go down as the greatest shooter when it's all said and done. Now, Reggie holds that honor but when Curry retires, he'll hold that crown, and the whole "defense was better in the old days" narrative, that should stop. Today's defenses are more intricate and complex with the zones and match ups. Also with the integration of advanced stats not to mention the type of athlete that plays today.

Now you're just talking out of your arse. Stockton, Magic, and Nash were all better ball handlers than Pistol. That's not saying he isn't great, but just be honest and not a homer. And no I'm not referring to just passing the ball. They were better ball handlers in every aspect. Finding the opening, court vision, craftiness, pin point accuracy.
This person is absolutely clueless. Seen all of them in the real and Maravich would literally distract your attention from the game with his wizardry..."who scored the bucket I'd say"...clueless, yes you are!

Maravich averaged 44 points a game in college most of it from the mid to outside jumper range. If Curry was so good in college ( and he was) then why was not his career points per game at Davidson not even close to Maravich? Same sized court, same amount of time in a game. Also statistically,Pete was a better guard than Curry with more assists per game.

Never said he was. I was responding to a poster's assertion that Maravich's passing/ball handling skills were the best that any had seen.
Maravich really was a special player. But some of the claims on this thread are overly sentimental.

Isn't it obvious? It's because Maravich shot a helluva lot more per game than Curry...Maravich averaged 20 more shots per game than Curry (38 to 18)...the question wasn't who was the highest scorer, the question was who was the better shooter...

Ok dude. Nobody is talking about college. We are talking about NBA where curry is dominating. Get your mind out of 1970s. Curry is destroying NBA. He is out everything msravich right now. Msravich better college player curry better NBA. Bottom line

This from Pete Maravich's Wikipedia page:
Maravich played before the advent of the three-point line. This significant difference has raised speculation regarding just how much higher his records would be, given his long-range shooting ability and how such a component might have altered his play. Writing for ESPN.com, Bob Carter stated, "Though Maravich played before freshmen were eligible for the varsity and before the 3-point shot was established, he loved gunning from long range."[15] It has been reported that former LSU coach Dale Brown charted every shot Maravich scored and concluded that if the three-pointers were counted, Maravich's average would have totaled 57 points per game.
I'm not saying that everything on Wikipedia is correct, but it's there.
Remember, we're talking about the college 3-pt line. Maybe 13 is high, but Pete's numbers would have been much higher with the 3-pt shot.
