sad to hear, but tl;dr

His site is the first site I open every day. Has been for years, and I just wish him and his family peace and joy. He's given it to us year after year. Prayers sent Dandy one.

Crazy to think that in his lifetime he went from poor farm kid from rural Louisiana to running a website read by people around the world. Think of how incomprehensible that would have been to his 15 year old self!

I start every day with DD where ever I may be in the world. God bless Dandy Don the ultimate Tiger fan.

not good.
Hang in there Dandy Don, a little redemption is just around the corner.

Sad to hear, especially around the holidays.
Hopefully his last year on earth can be spent celebrating a Tigers' National Championship. I think he would like that.

Given the Legend that is Dandy Don - I have a feeling (hope/prayer) he sticks around for us to win one this year and next. Miracles happen.

Seriously? I have never understood the hate DD gets from this board.. At least its nice to see there are many people that do respect the man outside of that once clown.

Are you fricking serious? That brought back memories for me and opens up an insight to rural life back in the '30's and '40's. That is priceless. Hats off to you DD. God bless you and your family.

Dandy you are da man. You and your family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks for the trip back in time, much like my Dad's and I certainly grew up being thankful for all that I had. God Bless to a Great Tiger, the Dandy Don.

Agreed. Keep fighting. I lost a friend to this, but he out lived the doctors predictions for years. Miracles do happen.

"True Tiger" is a massive cliche. But that notwithstanding, DD is one of the best.

Very sad/heartbreaking to read. Thankfully his son will take over the website so that it will continue.

The dandy one deserves to have the tigers go out undefeated. He has lived for this team. Probably the biggest tiger fan there ever was.

Prayers sent for him, his family, and friends.

Hey guys, thanks for all the well wishes, thoughts and prayers. I feel very privileged to be part of the Long family. Starting with my PawPaw, down to my Uncle Scott those guys have made sure that my daughter and I have had a good life. They're certainly at the top of people I've ever known.
I don't visit this site often, but I did want to come here to tell you all thanks for the well wishes. This will be a different Thanksgiving with all that is going on, but it will be a good one because while you all may enjoy reading his Thanksgiving message, I'll get to hear it (and see it when on the times we go up to Tannehill to go fishing).
So thank you guys again, please keep up the positive thoughts. It's very strange having this play out somewhat publicly, and I can't speak for everyone in the family, but it means a lot to me to see nothing but positive and encouraging responses.
Also, don't be afraid to email him.

There is comfort in knowing that there will always be someone available to ask me, "would you like fries with that" when I need my fast-food fix. As I understand it, McDonald's employee handbooks were written for 3rd grade reading levels and attention spans to match.

Take care kappadelttau. See you at the drive-thru.
As for DandyDon -- the best to you and your family. Your dedication to your family, your state, and your favorite football team is unquestionable.

Damn. That was way sadder than Brian's Song. I was crying my eyes out. This is real life. Best to Don and his kin.
It must take a lot out of him to lose his dear wife, so I'm sure he's looking forward to being with her in heaven. Before he goes though, I hope he gets to see a 14-0 BCS National Championship season pain-free.
