I could see Guidry being that guy.

The key to the season might be Schmidt and how much he’s improved from last year and one or two of the freshman coming along.

Evans (I’m sure he’ll be fine)
Moore (dude looked like he had a shite ton of out pitches. May need to move him to Friday)

That’s 2 great pitchers right there.

Drawing judgments after the first 2 games of the season is a time-honored tradition on the Rant. Wouldn't expect anything else from rantards.

William Schmidt was literally going to be picked in the top half of the first round. He has some developing to do, but I would say that meets your criteria of “top end talent”.

I think this is right. If he is a very good SEC weekend starter, we are in very good shape to make a run at a repeat. If he's not, we'll need to figure something out.

If Schmidt doesn't find consistent control, Jay has other options which might develop.

I feel like the staff has almost always been top heavy for the last 30 years. This is the first time I recall, having so many arms that could possibly make significant contributions this year.
Too early to say just how good the best pitchers will be, but there sure seems like a lot to choose from.

On question we will have a deep staff. However 2/3 of our starters didn’t throw the ball great. Especially against week comp! Time will tell though.

Evans will be fine. He had 1 bad inning. Schmidt is progressing. He did have a lot of ball 4's that were swung at but he may be better out of the pen, who knows. I think Yeskie will get him right. Tons of options if he doesn't

The starters have a long way to go to approach eyanson and Anderson last year
I’m not even sure it will stay the three we saw this weekend

The bullpen looks legit and way more options then last season

Some of these guys never learn.

I said it in the preseason and I still stand by it but I think that Moore needs to be shifted up to Fridays. He gives you the best chance to go deeper into the series opener and preserve your bullpen.

He's not your usual electric Friday night arm but he's good at working around traffic and has multiple out pitches. The guy just gets it done.

I hear that every year. Let’s decide in April how deep we are.
