Aiden Moffett pitched in La Crosse, Wisconsin last summer. Both Moffett and Johnson are scheduled to pitch in the Cape Cod League this summer.

for some reason I yhought he was with the Rougarous.

Lacrosse has green jerseys so I probably saw a video and assumed.

I hope he can figure it out. I can’t recall such a highly discussed recruit who wasn’t close to the strike zone his first year.

Yeah catchers like Neal and even coaches were warning once he figures out the mental side/strike zone to watch out, but he never figured it out unfortunately.

Hopefully he gets a lot of offseason work in and comes in next year and surprises everyone in a positive way. Would hate to see a guy with his tools go to waste because he cant hit the strike zone consistently, but it wouldnt be the first time something like that happened.

There was a guy briefly here for 1 year named Cam Sanders from JUCO who had a good bit of talent but really struggled to find the strike zone, he moved on to pro after 1 year here where he actually threw like 38 innings, but had like 2 dozen walks. He's spent the last 6 seasons in the minors trying to iron out his strikezone issues and he's still issuing way too many walks and it'll be the reason he never reaches the show. In his career he's held hitter to .197 in the minors but has 266 walks in 394 innings.

Totally agree :Cam needs a ton of work this summer and a pitching coach to work with him on simulated pitching scenarios to build control and confidence. He has a ton of potential but he is very raw currently.

Amazing to think these guys have been pitching as long as they have in life, and fall into a place where the strike zone is foreign to them.

At this point, the roster probably won't change. Almost anyone not on the roster for the SEC tournament is probably already playing on their summer team.

The most important thing to throwing strikes is to be able to repeat your delivery and your release point. Guys that big with that much going on tend t have a harder time than normal sized pitchers. There's such a small room for error, that anything that's just a little bit off can make a huge difference. He just needs to throw more pitches to get that muscle memory down. And not just bullpens, but in real game higher level situations where the adrenaline can affect his mechanics. He needs to learn how to handle that mentally, so that it doesn't affect his delivery.

If he's committed--and I don't have any reason to believe he's not--he'll figure it out over the summer, fall, and early spring and be ready to go come next spring. I wouldn't be opposed to throwing him against a LHH or 2 in the regional to see how he handles it. Maybe not in a 1-1 elimination game in the 8th or 9th innings, but at some point in a lower leverage situation. We say it all the time, guys are gonna have to step up in the postseason and do things that haven't done yet.

Not saying he's gonna go out there and throw 6 innings in a championship game or anything, but he may be able to get 1-6 big outs at some point. Maybe he's a guy who rises to the occasion and shines when the lights are brightest. Who knows. He may not throw a single pitch the rest of the season. But I wouldn't count him out as having a decent role, especially the farther we go. Somebody we're not counting on is going to have to. And Little's injury opens up a couple more options.

I actually got to watch him pitch this past Friday night (he was pitching for the Tenn. Smokies... the Cub's affiliate) when they played in Pensacola.

He was LETHAL! He was hitting 99 and 100 on his fastball, and throwing it for strikes. He got a bunch of swing-and-misses and foul balls. Whenever he got a 2 strike count, he threw a completely monster slider. He struck out the side doing this. Sadly for me, they only let him throw an inning. I was hoping to see more. Wow... what could of have been for us!

It’ll be interesting to see if he’s on the post season roster. 27 is all right? I can find 27 players over him but he’s right on the fringe.

Not sure if politics plays into something like this, since he was someone who turned down the kind of money he did and was so highly recruited may want to be on the travel roster and could also be seen as gaining valuable experience for doing it.

I’m getting downvoted into oblivion but the only reason I said I didn’t think he would be on the roster was because I thought they got a lot smaller.

Pretty sure post season roster size reduces to 27

In that case, I don’t see him suiting up unless it’s political. Moffit, Anderson and Hellmers are likely the last 3 pitchers on

I believe that Cam has a chance to contribute some very good pitching to the Tigers—just not this season.

He is just a freshman with an awful lot of talent, just not much experience.

Great potential though, just needs to work on getting the ball over the plate

We probably have the most pitchers with "great potential" than any other roster. Flame-throwing pitchers who can't find the strike zone are of no use to anyone after a season or two.
We do have a lot of guys who can step in and pitch a decent inning or two.
