Open Your Eyes dumb frick.

There was no obstruction…the video clearly shows the runner has a clear path to home plate.

All the runner had to do was slide. Charging into the catcher was malicious and umps got it right.

Lining up along the wall to give him a high five and congrats on the call on his way out?

Malicious contact supersedes catcher blocking the plate so all this yak about catcher blocking plate without ball is null and void.

There are fouls called in every single sport that don’t impact the play.

And apparently the rulebook

He was called safe. That’s clearly incorrect by rule. You’re arguing just to argue because you’re lsupride.

Pride spent a whole unseasonably lovely June Saturday arguing on the Tiger rant about a call in a game between Oregon and Utah Valley

If the catcher illegally blocks the plate without the ball, obstruction is called, and the runner is usually awarded home (Rule 8-3-e). However, if the runner responds with malicious contact (e.g., intentionally slamming into the catcher), the malicious contact penalty supersedes, and the runner is out and ejected (Rule 5-15-a-1, Note).

Catcher never had possession of the ball. He set up in front of (3rd base side) of the plate thus blocking it. Ball tipped off the top of the catcher’s glove and caromed back to the backstop. Only thing left for discussion is whether the contact was “malicious”.which is subjective and could go either way:
Posted on 5/31/25 at 5:56 pm to Boudreauboudreaugoly
He didn’t perform a legal slide before he made contact. Nothing subjective about that, and as a result, he’s out. That’s not debatable by rule.
Whether or not he should have been ejected is less clear.

How far up the line does he have to slide to make it a legal slide because the catcher was way up the line.
All of that is obviously up for interpretation. However, to review that play and eject the kid is wild at that level of baseball.

Watch it in real time…. He wasn’t even close to a real slide. He was upright legs never extended had all intentions of contact.
Posted on 5/31/25 at 7:05 pm to AaronDeTiger
The call came from Pittsburgh/the NCAA replay people, not the ump crew on site. At least that’s what Oregon’s coach said after the game. He said he felt sorry for the umps.

Catcher acted like he was about that life until the time came. Don't sit in the baseline with all that gear but be too afraid of impact to catch the ball. Hey, there's always first base, less impact and he can still wear a weird mitt.

The catcher was at least a foot in front of the plate. What is the point of sliding at that point?

I have less objection to the call and the ejection than I do the suspension. It shouldn’t be automatic.
I feel the same way about the garbage targeting rules in football.

Malicious contact
I watched it live and have seen the replay 1,000 times it seems like.
Doesn’t look malicious to me. He didn’t know what to do. He clearly pulled up to an extent, and didn’t lower his shoulder.
