No...

From the mouths of TN fans, they don't want him, so why would we? Let him retire with Phat Phil...

They gave their DC a secured job as the successor of one of their greatest coaches, in his first year in Austin.

He is not my first choice. however, He can start right away and he would improve our linebacker play immediately. If D-line can count on the lbs then the pass rush improves and thus the secondary. when is the last line backer we had like Jerod Mayo? He is a safe hire. Tennessee's offense this year was really bad so saying his defense sucks because of 4 picks and countless three and outs by the offense in the UCLA game is silly. Just my 2 cents.

The fans didn't. The administration did because they knew that he was gone to a HC gig in one year max if not.

From the TENN board :

Tenn D:
263 yds a game 4th in nation
776 total plays (64.5 a game)
35 red zone att. only 14 TDs
opponents converted only 37% of 3rd downs that everyone gripes about.
all of this while our Offense is ranked 116th in the nation in total offense
and 97th in time of possession

Not saying it wouldnt work, but what would he even run?

It wouldn't matter. The defense would go out there and get stops, or they would have to answer to Ken Norton. Norton's dad was a Marine and broke Ali's jaw. That's a tough family.

Norton IMO would be a swing for the fences. even if he has no idea WTF hes doing as a DC (which seems unlikely considering his career, his intensity, his intelligence and his three rings) he would recruit lights out so we'd still be better off than we are now.
