we ran a ton of i-form in 2007. just look at most of jacob hester's stats

For the record, I think Miles takes calculated gambles that seem riskier than they are, but he is in fact playing the percentages.
i don't disagree with this at all

Leach really isn’t that much of a “crazy” guy either, but he has carefully crafted the image of the Mad Scientist.
he's a really good promoter of himself off the field also. leach is a weird arse guy though

quote:SlowFlow needs to get the TD post traffic up, so he came up with another bullshite bash of Miles, suggesting (among other things) that he thinks he's playing in the Big 10 in the 1970s, that aggressive coaches do not calculate their calls but rather just randomly spew out blitzes and deep bombs (and that is somehow a good thing), and that somehow this is all evidence of the fact that Les Miles is too incompetent to coach in the SEC and will never have any success, much less win any championships. Oh, and that SlowFlow still knows WAY more about coaching football than Miles does.
What's this thread all about?
But mostly the post count thing. That's pretty much what this thread is all about.

this isn't a bash
it's about correctly defining an aspect of his image as a coach

I've heard that, but when I watched 2007 offense churn out first downs, it looked way different from the 2006 offense. Maybe it was just the options Flynn ran. Or maybe it was the playcalling that was changed, more so than the formations. In any case, the offense seemed to attack more in 2007 than 2006 or 2003.

Last year the offense had to revert more to I formation due to poor QB play. Had to run the ball more. But with a decent QB, LSU's offense will be aggressive.
+1

If you mean by 'big 10 minded' that Miles advocates pro set power I ball control smashmouth football like Nick Saban..Pete Carrol..Joe Paterno..Bear Bryant..Charles McClendon..Jim Tressel..Bobby Bowden..and Mack Brown, then you may be on to something. Personally, I think that Miles/Crowdon will accordingly adjust the offense to fit the skill sets of the personel on hand. Will we ever see an all out spread offense at LSU? Only time will tell.

Wait a minute… our team strengths were the offensive line, fullback/H-back, and a bruising running game and the biggest weakness was quarterback play and depth at wide receiver… and we ran the I-formation? THAT’S INSANE!
That’s not using Jimbo’s playbook, that’s properly assessing your assets.
I think the “unconventional” nature of Miles is that he doesn’t seem married to a certain style and he is willing to make adjustments. He’s also willing to own up to mistakes and then works to correct them (SEE: promoting from within). Most coaches have a system and will make the personnel fit. Miles seems to work the other way around. He also seems blissfully unconcerned with criticism (the dude even got ripped for a play that WORKED in the Auburn game – despite the fact there were 4 seconds on the clock when the receiver caught the ball). Which makes him truly odd.

Every coach that runs a few trick plays is inevitably called by the idiots at ESPN as a "River Boat Gambler". Tommy Tubberville was known as that for crying out loud.
I think Miles is fairly aggressive when it makes sense to be. I think he's not afraid to make a call for a certain play that may be "against the book" as long as He believes his players can execute it based on what he has seen in practice. On a scale of 1-10 I would rank his aggression at 7.

Saban? yes
Carroll? yes
Paterno: PSU = spread option now
Tressell: OSU will be spread option thsi year
Bowden: jimbo runs their offense
Brown: spread now, formerly spread option
