I was in school for late Archer, early Hallman. My freshman year ('88) was pretty good. If I remember correctly, going into '89 it was Hodson for Heisman. After that it was a big... banghead:

... until Dinardeaux came. I remember sitting in the South Endzone when Auburn's last drive failed in '95. Bliss...

... and then the wheels came off again a few seasons later. We did get 3 bowls out of the guy though.

I do remember being pissed at beating Bama in '93(?) because I knew that it would save Curley's job! I've NEVER been upset at a Tiger win. How messed up is that?

Best part for me: I got tickets in tiger terrace two right when it opened in 2000, just after Dinardo departed. Been there for all the "golden years". KC.

I remember us having poorly conditioned football players then

And this is why we HAVE to put Tommy Moffitt in the top 3. Conditioning at any program, but especially at a place like LSU is so key. After Moffitt joined the staff, he was really able to help the players turn it around. It's no surprise we're seeing so much success since he's been here. On a side note, we'd be screwed if he were to leave like it's been rumored in the past.

i went to games during the hallman years.
what was so funny is that we got the same tickets every week from the ticket office.
i became a season ticket holder dinardo's first year.
yes i was there ...yes i remember.
you could drive to LSU at 3 o clock for a 7 o clock game and still have spots left.

The student section chanted in those days "Yes we suck, yes we suck...."

I think it was 58-3

Glad I wasn't around during those times.

I was a student during the Charley Mac years at LSU. I remember all of those terrible years under Hallman, Deinardo, etc. Even though those were horrible seasons, I remwember thinking that LSU was being paid back for the horrible treatment of C. Mac. I'll never forget those HELP MAC PACK SIGNS at LSU. When we were really sucking, I'll never forget seeing the KEEP MAC PACKED signs that Tulane put up at their game against LSU in the DOME. It was unforgiveable what LSU did to Charley Mac. Even though he was tossed aside like trash, that man never stopped his love or support for LSU.

Does that sound like something that Tenn. did to Phil Fulmer?

I was living in New Orleans and going to dental school at LSUSD from '91-'95. Many Saturdays sitting in a half empty Tiger Stadium. We used our free student tickets for toilet paper back then.

at least the initial assistant coaching staff...his replacements later were his downfall
Had Dinardo not been so stubborn regarding his later choices of coaches, who knows how many more years he could have stayed at LSU. But the negative to that is we never would have got Saban & we could likely still be looking for our first championship since 1958.

It started when lsu didn't try to keep all the LA players. Bucky Richardson, Wally Hartley and those baton rouge guys were leaving and lsu didn't give a rats. Times have changed.

I give credit to three people for the resurrection of this program (in order of importance)

Emmert
Saban
Bertman

Make no mistake while these 3 deserve some credit. Bertman by far deserves most of it. His criteria for hiring a coach is what led us to discover $aban.

Still think the 98 season was probably the most disappointing ever.

You think you had it bad? I watched that entire game too. The worst part for me was that TS security confiscated my bourbon when I walked into TS. Thus, I had to watch that debacle sober with the specter of having to go see the law school chancellor on the next Monday and get my arse chewed for trying to sneak alcohol into TS.

My sentiments exactly!
People forget that Dinardo had three good years his first three seasons here..............two of which the team finished 9-3 and 10-2. If he had not been so stubborn with keeping Lou Tepper, we most likely wouldn't have gotten Saban. But at the same time, I had some of my best times during those three seasons ('95, '96, '97). So, even though '98 was one of the MOST DISAPPOINTING in recent memory (who can forget Faulk crying after one game that season on the WAFB news?) and '99 wasn't much better, he still gave us some great memories.

Hallman, on the other hand, was just horrible.

An LSU win would mean a trip to the Independence bowl. There were 40,000 in the stadium.

Does anyone remember who was coaching the other team that DiNardo blew out on that cold Independence Bowl night in '95?

I was in residency at Charity 91-94. Those were some lean times.
