When people talk about the treatment of Charlie Mac, I'm pretty positive they're talking about the fans, not the administration. McClendon's teams progressively got worse for the most part during his last years, but that still didn't justify the brutal treatment our fans gave him. We didn't treat Hallman half as bad.

I agree. I thought the treatment of Mac by many of the fans was disgraceful, even while I agreed that he should be replaced.

The 98 season was the most painful. To enter the season at #6, lose so many close games and end up a 3 or 4 win team was so insulting. Pretty much any team in the country could have beat us that year. In terms of talent we were definitely top 10. I would have taken 8-5 in a hearbeat.

You really don't treat the winningest coach in the program's history and a future college football hall of famer the way our fans treated Charlie Mac. We were just on a West Virginia level of scumbaggishness there.

I'll probably get blasted but, I don't think Curley was terrible. He spent the first couple of years re-building from the Archer debacle. Hallman didn't recruit that bad either. Lou Tepper was a good man but, he was Dinardo's downfall

Don't blast me here, but the era that is being referred to in this thread is what scares me about Miles. I hope we NEVER go back to that again.

I disagree on Hallman not qualified to be a D 1 coach. The program was in the gutter when he came.

Hallman was a decent recruiter at times but he had the worst coaching staff in LSU history by a wide, wide margin. Wasn't one of his offensive assistants working as waiter before he was hired at LSU?

I remember it well, wish I could forget it

Have heard many stories from a friend who played for Curley. Most Tiger fans would be amazed at some of the shite that went on during this era.

Dinardo deserves a lot of credit from where we were after the archer downfall and the curly disaster

Kennison was punished by Dinardo for running track. Why didn't Kennison start the first couple of games of his last season? Kennison bucked Dinardo in spring since he was promised he could run track in the spring!

Scouts couldn't believe it!

Chris Cummings had to get Coach Henry to help him run track.

Dinardo ONLY wanted one sport athletes! Football only!

How did Men's Track do during Dinardo's time compared to previous years?

Unlike Dinardope, Miles saw that there was a problem and rectified the situation...and he did it with integrity.

Miles is definitely not Dinardope II.

I think he was talking about the 1993 season when Hallman was 5-5 going into the Arkansas game. Arkansas ran wild on us and we lost 42-24 to finish 5-6.

This sounds right. I believe the Carquest Bowl was on the line. I remember seeing John Goodman at the game, pumping up the crowd. We could not stop Arky's running game.

Make no mistake while these 3 deserve some credit. Bertman by far deserves most of it. His criteria for hiring a coach is what led us to discover $aban.

Bertman was still baseball coach for a year after Saban arrived. Joe Dean was technically the AD to hire Saban although Emmert did not allow him to screw up the hire, and then he graciously gave Dean credit.

Does anyone remember who was coaching the other team that DiNardo blew out on that cold Independence Bowl night in '95?

Wow, what a point you just made. Certainly one that is never made on here. So original, I am glad you were able to provide the board with such thought provoking insight. That game proves that DiNardo must be somewhat a better coach, and you'd think by reading it he's had a much better coaching career.

I mean it's not like DiNardo is out of coaching and can't get a single job, and Saban's been an National Championship and NFL coach and is running a top 10 program.

Just stop. You make our fans look like idiots.

How did I know we couldn't go a single day without the obligatory love of Gerry DiNardo.

It also taught me that going 8-3 every year wasn't so bad. Because the alternative could be going 3-8. It's a lesson Texas A&M is learning for their arrogance right now.

Awesome. So then let's lower ticket prices if we're not going to try and be competitive with teams like Florida, who fired perennial 8 win Zook and is now on the verge of a possible 3 national titles in 4 years because of it.

All of those schools suffered because they made terrible subsequent hires, or in our case, because our coach died, not because they got rid of underperforming coaches. Great, now we're feeding the stereotype that people from this region of the country generally follow superstition instead of logic.

We should all be hating on Brett Favre for making Curly look so great at USM.

I always tell rival fans that Brett Favre set LSU back a decade. Then I have to explain...
