disagree, especially on jones
You would be one of the few to disagree. They both had some good years already. Jones was here for only 3 years and got drafted.

neither were redshirted, thats about it
Both played their true freshman years, and in their 2nd year figured in more. Davenport is on the scout team right now, not even on the depth chart.

jones looked like he was gonna be a beast his frosh year, then bulked up, got slow and could only hit hard every once in a while...nowhere near the player we thought he would be
yea, and davenport may very well play a ton throughout this season...i wouldnt put an ounce of stock in the first depth chart of the season, all it showed is that davenport was unimpressive in fall camp

A bust is more like Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart.

He'll get some PT, I dunno how much. I don't think you can call anyone a bust in their redshirt freshman year.

Is this another 5star bust or what?
Really?
He's a damn freshman........

I keep hearing he is the "gentle giant" and also showed up out of shape and got himself in the coaches doghouse. They say he has the talent to be good but so far does not show to have the desire. If he'll just get his arse in gear and out of the coaches doghouse he might just do something as far as getting on this field this year. Way too early to be labeled a bust but I agree if he does not start showing promise he is indeed on his way to being a bust. Some guys have all the God given tools and talent to be stars but just don't have a passion for the game and I hope this is not the case for Davenport.

Chris had the same mentality as boo smith from Pickering a few years ago it took boo some time as both have all the talent in the world just did not have that mean streak.boo is with the jags now and is nowhere near a bust

Chris D had a decent performance in spring game. Maybe he is a gametime player not as much a practice player?

Way too early to call but he does seem to need a kick in the pants.
I don't think a 5 star recruit has lived up to the hype except Peterson. Hopefully #10 and #2 will before it is all said and done. Toliver has been good, but not near other 5 star SEC wideouts (Jones and Green).
Most 5 stars end up being good but not great (Toliver, Jones, Keiland) or busts (Woods) or freaking head cases (Perrilloux). Of the above, Davenport most resembles Woods seeing that he's been passed by a walkon and a less-heralded classmate and cannot find himself on the depth chart to start the season.

Like I said, I'm not giving up on Davenport. Just telling it like it is right now. Getting beat out by a walk on for the last spot at DT is pretty bad in your 2nd year if you're supposedly a 5-star recruit.
whats your agenda guy? everyone is different and different positions have a harder transition from hs to college. there are some players who dont blossom until their senior year. calm down everyone gets your point, just because we dont agree with you doesnt mean you need to repeat the same shite over and over

I wouldn't call him a bust. After all he has this year plus 3 more years to contribute.
Anyway, from what I've seen he is not that far away. His main problem though is he plays too high. Hence, until he can perfect his technique I imagine he won't play, but I wouldn't by a long shot write him off.

No, you're telling it like you THINK it is. Neither you nor I nor anyone else know the end result 3 years from now.

Exactly! And this is what I was trying to say. All the people I know in Mansfield said the kid would be good if he could just get a little meaner. I'm sure the LSU coaching staff will work on him and coach him up. Just because a player came out of high school as a 5 star recruit does not mean they will dominate. Rivals and Scouts gets those stars wrong from time to time. Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford was a 3 star. Jacob Hester was a 2 star. I could go on and on. That Xavier Lee was a 5 star WR and he did not pan out. Bottom line I have faith that Chavis and his staff will light a fire under this kid.

Yeah but since this is a message board, you can't really fault people for being disappointed in a supposed can't miss recruit who not only can't start like Montgomery and Loston and Claiborne et al. but who has apparently no hope of seeing the field this year because he cannot outplay a walk on.
A WALK ON. As someone who played college football, I will tell you that this fact is just damn sad.
Davenport needs to get it together quick.
