Coker sure does. But how much blame can really be put on the coach. Its not always all the coaches fault. Its not like Coker was going 3-8 at Miami. They still had a ton of talent on those Miami teams. A QB can make a coach look so very bad at times. Think about it. Florida St. and Miami both still have as much talent as anyone, but they've been very unlucky the past several seasons with the QB situation. They have both recruited highly rated QB's that just haven't panned out. Next thing you know, a very talented team like Miami, Florida St, or LSU for that matter, go 9-4 or 8-5, and its all the coaches fault. shite, sometimes the QB's on these teams just end up sucking balls. Thats just the way it happens sometimes. Just saying, people talk really bad about Coker, but shitty arse QB play had a lot to do with his demise as the head coach at Miami.

Agreed! Coker was not allowed to recruit the thugs Miami had recruited in earlier yrs as they were trying to clean up their image.

That cuts both ways. Miles is a polarizing figure. I think "sensible" arguments can be made both ways. If you don't think an argument can be made that Miles is as good as those other coaches, then you're no better than people with the purple and gold glasses, you just stand on the opposite side of the fence.

I will say this, I don't think I've ever seen any cf coach ever get less credit for his accomplishments and more blame for his failures. Saban can lose to ULM or Utah and it's the player's fault. Meyer loses 4 games with Tebow and it's the player's fault. If they win it's because they're awesome. Miles wins a NC and he's "lucky." People always point out the two losses, but IGNORE the losses of the other teams of these "great" coaches. Were these SAME coaches not on the sidelines when THEIR teams were losing? And don't give me the LSU had more talent crap. Miles didn't lose to a 41-point dog at home against a qb who had never started a major college game before. And yet Carroll is not going to be questioned as a coach, yet he had as much talent as anybody. Why is that? Both teams LSU lost to were bowl teams. If Miles loses, he's an "idiot." I think all of those coaches mentioned are great coaches. I just think the same standards should be applied to all of them if you're going to make an argument. It seems like the rules are altered when judging Miles to paint him as a "lucky idiot."

Keep this in mind. Urban Meyer lost 4 games year before last with Tebow (probably the best college player of all time). Imagine if they wouldn't have had Tebow. It was a bad season for the Gators. I'm sure they weren't very happy about it. Just saying, stop all this shite about Meyer being so much better than Miles, and that Miles still has to prove himself. Meyer had a shitty season too.

Exactly! And what people fail to mention is that we lost our Star QB prior to our season which would have translated to a leader on the field...something we lacked. Our defense fell apart (likely bad coaching decision by Miles with the Co-Def Coordinators). However, I don't blame Miles one bit for kicking Perrilloux off the team (only that he should have done it sooner). As far as his "gutsy" calls in the 2007 season, you didn't see him taking any chances this year? Why? B/C he didn't have the faith in his team like he did in 2007. That means he made those calls b/c he BELIEVED in his team...nothing wrong with that.

Does that seem funny to you? No, I don't think so. Do you think that people on this board will get outraged by a random, idiotic comment intended to inflame? Maybe. Frck off.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that his little pre SEC championship game speech....won...me...over!
LINK
He's got more loyalty than Saban ever dreamed of. CLM wasn't stupid enough to leave LSU (for his dream job at Michigan) because he had the foresight to see how it would be the biggest mistake of his life. Unlike Saban, which is now his biggest regret in life.

To me Meyer gets too little respect along with Les. Stoops, Richt and Little Nicky are way too hyped. All arrogant pricks too I might add.

I like Urban Meyer but hate that he is as good as he is. He is the real deal.

In my younger days it would have bothered me terribly.

Not so much anymore. It's all about LSU now, and as good a guy as I perceive Les to be and as much as I like him, as long as LSU wins I'm ambivalent to the perception of Les by others.

I just don't put our coaches up on pedestals anymore so I don't get as pissed at them in the bad times nor to I fellate them during the good times.

Also, it shouldn't bother anyone that Les doesn't get a lot of respect, because everyone just saying Les is the greatest college football coach who ever lived wouldn't get us an automatic bid to the championship game this season. They could say he sucks and he goes undefeated and they could say he's amazing and could go 3-9.

Honestly, Miles is not a good game day coach.

Some coaches can make a team, Miles is made by his players and his assistant coaches.

I do understand that they lost their qb last year. But regardless of that, the team still underperformed last year. They had stacked talent on the defense, especially the front seven, yet they got run on.

They had a big offensive line, yet had trouble running.

Some say he makes gutsy calls. I would say he makes stupid calls. He got very lucky in 2007 that they all worked out. Last year things kinda evened out.

But he is a great recruiter. He does have a great staff. He has a program name with excellent facilities. He will do very good at lsu.

Overall, I say he is a good coach. He is not an elite coach, but I would place him in the next level.

Problem is that the SEC has a number of elite coaches and I do not know if he is going to be able to keep up with some of them.

"...Miles is not a good game day coach...."

42 "game day" wins in 4 yrs tells me a different story, but each to our own.

With 4 of the front seven starting for the first time and having not much playing time until last year, not to mention nearly ever dlineman being nicked up from simple sprains to bad ones that kept them from being 100%

They had a big offensive line, yet had trouble running.

Again, injuries, all over the line from little ones to ones that forced people to miss multiple games.
Unleas you played then you have no idea how that disrupts a teams rythm. And there is damn little ANY coach can do.

Not being able to hire a legitimate Defensive Coordinator AND then, being the first program in college football history to lose 5 games (Almost 6) the year after winning a National Championship, due mainly to the incompent defense that the Co-DC's put on the field, tends to cause a lack of national respect. That's not the kind of mistake that 3 million + per year coaches should be making.

Yeah yeah yeah, he corrected the mistake by hiring Chavis, but's that's a correction on paper only. The Tigers will have to win big time in 09 or it will only get worse for LM......
