Pittsburg skyline from inside PNC Park caught my eye and left an impression.

LSU only got 3 players. That’s really not a haul. Matter of fact, that’s a much smaller number than I would have thought.

Absolutely, the thought was he would get half their roster. That's actually significantly fewer than most coaches switching schools bring with them.
Damn, feel bad for the '86 team - first I've heard of it and I'm going regardless but some would have gone just to see them if this had been publicized better.

As it is there may be 4K-5K there today tops.

We were kind of country though.

This was mine - young folks I work with think I'm making it up and then they look it up and see it is or was at least - common in rural communites where farming is the major industry.

My Mom grew up on a farm - she would say when folks challenged her on calling the noon meal dinner - "lunch is something you eat out of a bag".
I don't watch much but it always struck me as too subjective for me and that the home team always gets a bump on that regard.
Well I'll be there and out and about so I guess i'll find out.
Toenails are my problem - big toes got da fungus on those two - been fighting it for 10 years.

Only because they bought ownership in Sports Spectrum TV. So sorry the Dodgers are superior at business as well as baseball.

While yes, it was a good decision there were also VERY fortunate in the timing of the deal on a couple of fronts and other circumstances that in no way do I believe they knew were coming, converged together in a perfect storm to turn it in to the monster it has become.

ven though that ended 50 years ago, baseball has always had the most militant union unwilling to compromise on anything or give the owners anything that could be construed as a victory.

This is correct and it hurst the rank and file.....all these big money and in other years lengthy contracts that they will say are "great for the sport" really hurt the rest of the players in baseball, but they keep allowing it....they meaning the militant baseball union that IMHO you accurately describe.

With that said, it shows how much revenue LSU is leaving on the table by allowing the basketball program to be non competitive.

100% agree.
The Dodgers get $334 million yearly through their t.v. Contract, before any other revenue comes in. They give zero fricks if it's an overpay. And it is.
There are several parts that go into the whole here. How good is he as an in game bench coach? How good is he at recruiting and roster management. Game planning? Does he play the right guys at the right time and put the guys he has in the best position to win.

Does he promote the program, engage with the fan base and big boosters well, use the media to his advantage in promotion of the program. Help effectively raise funds to help his program?

As I look at the list above, I wonder which of these Matt is best at. I don't think he's bad at all of the above, but I honestly don't know that he has shown me that he is above average at any of it.

I don’t give a single shite about the popularity of college basketball across the Nation.

You may not but that does not change the reality - and to ignore that and try to pit one against the other is short sighted and negligent.

Both can co-exist and be excellent. Please quit pretending that can't be the case here just because you like one sport over the other.
She's mean, she's ignorant and she's spiteful and she don't know that she don't know.

But her sheer volume of brazen DGAF has always been astounding.
I have a co-worker who is absolutely butt queer for HEB. He and his wife will drive to Houston every month or two for the main purpose of shopping there.

Never been in one but I will certainly have to try it if I'm ever in the vicinity of one and have the time.

LSU wouldn't be able to keep up with the new season ticket requests.

Count me as one who does not think it's going to happen - but in the hypothetical world in which he would be - this is a FACT!!

o one said they were struggling. But I can tell you for a fact that Jay was not happy with the way revenue sharing was set up. Baseball shouldn't be lumped in with all the sports besides football/MBB/WBB

Every coach should be fighting for their program - If they aren't they aren't doing their job.

One of my bigger issues with CMM is that I don't see that he is. I think the PR campaign for hoops at the end of the year was largely started and worked by others.

Hell yes, Richard Dawson makes the movie.

Agreed, Dawson plays a surprisingly great heal - steals the show.

Arnold - "I'll be back"!

Dawson - "Only on a re-run"!!

Baseball has several private donors that make up the difference but I do agree with your point. Excellence should be rewarded.

Absolutely, don't be lazy folks - look beneath the surface.

I like CMM the man the person, but in this day and age sorry, we need a coach that can do the same for men's basketball. And he is not that and doesn't seem to really want to be that.... and by that I mean a person that promotes and fund raises for his program and secure those types of private donors for his sport. That doesn't happen by accident.

Every sport and every department at LSU should strive for excellence - this idea of having to weaken one to strengthen the other is ignorant and defeatist.
quote:

maha packs in 25k or more LSU fans whenever LSU baseball is in Omaha

The fans’ actions tell you what is important

And that's all well and great, our fans care more about college baseball than anyone in the country....by far and that's not a bad thing - it's a good thing and very rare in the landscape of college baseball - it's to be commended.

But nationwide a consistently successful basketball team can do more for the brand nationally without question - and that really does mean something. And to not tap into that and to make even more profit as some would suggest and just let men's basketball wallow in mediocrity, is IMHO ignorant and very short sighted.
