Saban seemed to recover from the UAB disaster pretty well.

As a fan, I simply demand championships now. I don't settle for mediocre like you guys do. I guess half arse is acceptable now.

Humm, lots of varied opinions! The question was; Does Miles get Respect?
Yes; from his family, some neighbors, friends and people that want him to stay the LSU H.C. for their own selfish reasons. He makes a ton of money doing something many of us envy in him. Also many could be people that don't want to do the math and buy out his contract or the LSU competition who want to take advantage of his lack of intensity as a H.C. in the future. They want an easy win or least assure their team a victory over LSU.

NO, from many of the same people but for opposite reasons.

As a person, I respect him very much, so that is a YES. I bet he is a real nice guy with his own kind and family.

As a quality H.C. for a future elite program at LSU in football, I have to question that? I suppose this is a NO.

I realize this has ne (aye) to do with the question!
To the LSU football athletes coming and going:

Eventus stultorum magister = Events are the teacher of the stupid persons. Stupid people learn by experience, bright people calculate what to do. Apisci - Contra felicem vix deus vires habet = Against a lucky man a god scarcely has power.

Sitting in the pressbox watching the game does not equate to coaching in it. Simply attending practice while your assistants run it also doesn't equate to coaching. JoePa hasn't coached at Penn State in a long time.

Even in the ridiculously unlikely event that he did somehow restore the program to prominence, it's hard to respect someone after something as bad as the Ole Miss debacle. Some blunders are just so bad you never live them down. That game, more than any other of his career, will be his legacy.

With all due respect, this is just too sad! Based on your own words "if he returns the program to prominence"...you still will view the Ole Miss game of 2009 as his legacy? Yes, it was a major meltdown. Guess what it is over and lessons have been learned. It is time to move on.

Sorry, I was at the SEC Championship game in 2007 at the Georgia Dome with the total beat down of UGA and will remember it always. I enjoyed the total beatdown of Ohio State in the Championship game. The thrilling victory over Florida...The beatdown of the Irish. All teams I love to hate. And yes I know this is in the past, but the past success is also what provides opportunities for current success.

I look forward to more success in the future. I hope things improve continually and Miles wins at LSU... those victories and how Miles and the players responded after Katrina is what I will always remember the most. It will be sad if Miles has to leave because I root for LSU and want Miles to be as successful as possible while preparing young men to be successful in their lives off the field for LSU. So I hope LSU beats down another Big 10 opponent in the Cap One bowl, gets the offensive side of the ball fixed and brings in a top 10 class.

I believe Miles was the right coach and person at the right time to help the Tigers and the state of Louisiana deal with the unbelievable aftermath of Katrina.

Life is just too short to be filled with such an attitude. There is too little constructive criticism ever mentioned on here without some sort of personal attack.

Miles has earned respect in the past, lost some last year, gained some (Auburn) and lost some (Ole Miss)this year and hopefully will be stronger for it and win it all again soon. The problem is it will never be enough for those who do not like Miles because as I see it they will always be looking for the dark side of every victory.

The last time I heard anyone in the NFL talk, it is supposed to be about W's and L's. Not how good or bad you look during the W's and L's. Unfortunately without a play off system currently in place the focus shifts from just winning to how you look while winning.

I do apologize for this being so long, but I read so much ..... on here for too long. This is probably in response to a lot of others as well. Take it as just my two cents worth of looking at the last few years. I personally blame big time television revenue and exposure for ruining another national pastime. C'est La Vie and Dobre Den.

LSU - 21
TENNESSEE - 14

Sounds like you remember it real well.

ETA: Hardly think a 7 point win (with a defensive TD) counts as a beatdown.

Penn St will be classified as a GOOD WIN, not a GREAT WIN....although the news media may play it up some so as not to diminish Jo Pa 's image

let's wait and see what the line is when announced

I will begin by telling those who don't already know it that I am not a big fan of Les Miles. With that said, I think another bowl win will get him some increased (and deserved) respect, albeit only for his bowl performances in general. Another thing it may do, however, is cause fans to wonder even more why it is that Miles can perform so well on the grand stage (the bowls) but can't win games with the same dominance during the regular season.

If we were 12-0 like Alabama and Florida, having won like they did, there would still be people bitching. Take the Bama vs. UT game or the UF vs. MSU game as examples. These would be ammunition for the bitching.

There would be a lot less with that record, but until LSU dominates every game, there will be an anti-Miles crowd because of the way he is.

if we were 12-0 and dominating every game people would be bitching about people leaving at halftime and lack of interesting games. its SOOO BOOORRINGG we ALLLWAYS win. why hasnt Sheppard thrown a ball? wheres the annexation of puerto rico play? when will he get a new hat? why wont he wear a sweater vest? when are we going to get new uniforms?

24 more points this year at the right times and LSU is undefeated. That is an average of only 2 more point a game.

Some of the rantards would still be calling for the entire offensive staff to be fired.

a nice post, and obviously from your heart, but...the question you and others must ask yourself (and honestly), is this...is he the right coach for LSU NOW?

BTigerFan,

When you have to resort to "if only" type statements, it really shows a weakness in your argument. At least stick to actual statistics, please. 24 more points this year... doesn't cut it. We didn't get the 24 points. We did lose a game we absolutely shouldn't have lost, and it was entirely the fault of the coaching staff. It's that simple. The SEC record is what it is. It isn't an argument; it speaks for itself, because it is fact. It has nothing to do with "what could have been."

rtgr, if he starts winning some more championships I will respect him. Until then, forget it. At LSU we demand championships.

You can demand all you want to gator fan. If UF is lucky enough to win its second in a row you can thank Tim Tebow and nobody else. UF was lucky enough to have the greatest college football player in the last 50 years play for them. Fact is, without Tebow UF would not be where it is today.
Fact is, most teams do not even get the chance to play for 2 in row. Sorry to upset all the Miles haters but you all should bone up on your history. Since the mid 80s teams have an ebb and flow to them. Nobody stays at the top constantly whether you like it or not.

I've seen what Miles can do in bowl games.

He's proven that.

His teams give effort -- and the bowl game is usually their best game of the season. He really excels in that game. He certainly enjoys that part of the season. I have to say that I felt LSU outcoached Ohio State in 2007.

But there are 12 games on the schedule.

How bout taking care of Saban, Meyer and Nutt for starters.

Just a thought -- maybe the guy just remembers LSU winning the SECCG -- and going on to beat tOSU.

Cut him some slack for goodness sake. His post was positive and supportive of LSU football.

Yes - 2003 was Saban's team - I know that --- but the points in his post were not bad -- so why respond the way you did? Jerk
