re: Does TreDez Green Get In A Basketball Game?

With how weak our front court is Green should be able to get some minutes. It wont be real impactful but no reason he shouldnt play some on this team. Ultimately we are going to lose 14+ SEC games or so.
And the people complaining about Williams or Fountain not playing much, they have both sucked this season when they have played. They shouldnt be playing much. They are not the answer to any of our issues. Both of their PERs are sub 10 this season, thats terrible. Givens has also been the worst player on the entire team. He cant play on the offensive end nor play any defense.

The issue is not that Fountain and Williams are great players. It that, as you recognized in your last sentence, the guys ahead of them haven't been so good that it justifies leaving Williams/Fountain on the bench. Miller plays a lot of minutes. He doesn't contribute anything. He doesn't score. He doesn't rebound. He doesn't defend. Fountain will at least give you effort defensively and on the glass. I'm 100% confident that if Fountain plays Miller's 20 minutes vs. Vanderbilt LSU wins that game. Not because Fountain would have gone off for 15 points. But because he would have grabbed more than 1 rebounding in 20 minutes. The rebounding discrepancy was the biggest reason LSU lost that game.
The shots haven't been falling for Williams...but at least he can create some open looks. That's more than what can be said for most of the team. And for as much as they "sucked", LSU is 1-4 in SEC play. The one win was the one game Fountain and Williams played the majority of the second half.
This team isn't good enough to just burry potential options with a least some history of production on the bench while the guys in front of them struggle.

The difference in Fountain's defense is much less than in Miller's offensive efficiency.
For example, Miller is the best player on offense in conference play on the team in terms of efficiency. He has a nearly 150 offensive rating, now he doesnt have any raw stats offensively, but neither does Fountain. Fountain's offensive rating is 63 (he is 2 for 13 from the floor in conf play), which is 2nd lowest on the team outside of Vyc Miller in conference play. Fountain is better on the defensive glass by far, but Miller is far better on the offense glass. In the end, I would tend to play Miller more as the young guy you're trying to grow. He clearly is more talented than Fountain, but obviously learning how to play the game properly (like early on in non conference not jacking up 3 threes a game). Fountain simply isnt the answer to anything. It's why he's a 5th year journeyman on a rough squad only getting minutes because a starting front court guy got hurt at this point. This isnt to say Fountain shouldnt play at all, but the dude has played in all 5 SEC games and getting 35% of available minutes and still sucks.

Williams is better than he showed early on but things for whatever reason havent clicked with him all season long. With Vyc Miller out he's gotten more run and hasnt been a total disaster but there's just something not sitting right there. I feel like he'll be the first to hit the portal when it opens up because i just dont think he's all there right now. Just looks defeated this season. I dont have any issues with him playing or anything, I just havent seen the drive and spark much from him this season to want to do well.
The crippling thing for this team outside of Ward quitting (massive loss people wanted to downplay) and Reed getting hurt is all 3 freshmen have just dont nothing for us really in conference play. Miller is playing better but he's not scoring at all as a result. Givens has just been a complete disaster in conference play and Vyc Miller outside of the time he's lost to injury has also been bad in conference play. This team couldnt afford to have its 3 freshmen basically all play like that.

I like stats. I do. But sometimes they can be misleading. Sure, I guess Miller is the most efficient offensively player. Of course, that happens when you only take 7 shots...in 60 minutes...all being put backs. He also doesn't have a single defensive rebound in SEC play. Not 1. Which was my point with the Vandy game. LSU shot 50% to Vandy's 43%. The difference was Vandy attempted many for FGs because they dominated the offensive glass. Don't you think it might have been nice if one of LSU's bigs...who played 20 minutes...could have gotten just a few defensive rebounds? Even just 1?
Fountain is not a guy LSU is going to run offense through. Ever. But nether is Miller. His only contribution this season (aside from trying to injury opponents on bad screens) is if the ball literally and luckily falls right to him by the goal and he can put it back in. I was fine giving him a lot of minutes in non-conf. play early on. But he's simply not a contributor for this year's team. Then again, maybe McMahon has already waived the white flag and is "playing for next year". Fountain may not be great. But he give you more than Miller who, in SEC play, has more fouls than total rebounds, and only 2 more points than total fouls.
You're losing, a lot, in mostly non-competitive games. Try something different! If it doesn't work, so be it. What the worst than can happen? You lose by 10+? That's what's happening now.

Compared to Fountain's 13 shots, of which he's made 2. And also has 6 turnovers to Miller's 2. Again, there arent a lot of raw stats there, but as much help as Fountain has been on the defensive end, hes still been that much worse on the offensive end.
FWIW, Fountain has gotten more minutes than Miller overall in conference play to this point.
I do think to some degree McMahon is playing for next year. The freshman havent played well in conference play but Fountain wont be around next year (Williams probably not either).

Brian Bridgewater 2.0.
No chance.
No chance.

Just wondering, could he also get an injury in spring football? Or playing pickup basketball or getting in a car wreck or tripping over something and falling the wrong way? The only way you protect him from injury is to not let him do anything which just isn't happening.

While I don't think Green ever plays, I wouldn't say he is Brian Bridgewater 2.0. Bridgewater was about 6'4 200+ in the 9th grade. That's why he was considered a top prospect at the time. Unfortunately, he was about 6'4, 240+ as a freshman at LSU.
Green is probably closer to a legit 6'7" (maybe about 6'6) and is more athletic than Bridgewater (who ballooned to like 275 at LSU...while playing basketball). I doubt he could be a big time basketball player, but he's more physically suited to contribute than Bridgewater was

If I was Kelly, I would shut this shite down. Why risk injury playing on a team that is basically cannon fodder for the rest of the teams in the SEC

the whole situation just reminds me of that deal.
