You are correct Duckie.
fricking with people's lives for the betterment of your sports teams is shitty on all levels.
It does happen to most schools in unusual circumstances.
But some schools seem to make it a usual recruiting "occurance".

Yes they do and they make it seem alright because "it's not against the rules." They will keep rationalizing until the NCAA steps in.
Honestly, I see some sort of rule coming up after this next recruiting season.

Yeah, agents can only recruit players that sign with a school.

Sorry, meant the next college recruiting season. I'm surprised they didn't step in after Ole Miss' signings.

Auburn signed 32 players last year.
WTF???
WTF???

Very interesting-- thanks.
What sticks out to me first and foremost is highly rated academic institutions-- and many are private-- actually under recruit.

Yes, but also, it seems that schools in the Southeast, not just the SEC, tend to overrecruit. That has a lot to do with competition, recruiting budgets, and pressure on coaches.

Yup.
See Hitchcox's post right above. Sums up your point nicely.

Another problem in the current recruiting process is the recruitment of academically ineligible players. Obviously, this is more prevalent today than 20 years ago due to access of info, recruiting sites . . .
It's hard to pass up on a kid that didn't get an 18 on the ACT if he can play ball.

But Vandy, Georgia Tech, Duke, UVA, and Wake Forest, which all are considered as top-tier academic and research institutions, under recruit.
And their in the SE.

Yes, and that's their choice and the alumni/fans don't really care. At least as much as LSU fans do.

And I think a lot of that has to do with stroking the egos of alumni that donate. Just sign the kid so we can feel like masters of the universe.

This type of thing happens and the general reaction is "cost of doing business, had to be done, have to do it for best interest of the program etc etc"
Yet a kid switches his committment or leaves the state and everyone loses their mind.

Yeah and if that player doesn't qualify or something bad happens to them they say, "I told you so, you should have signed with ____ University.
It's kind of petty when someone goes elsewhere and you wish bad things on them.
Alumni and fans of every school do that. One player should not make or break a top-caliber program.

Having to be under both the 85 and 25 in order to count anyone back is not a new rule.
Posted on 8/3/10 at 7:10 pm to MOT
I'm talking about a newer, more strict rule.
