if its true that fordham is getting a greyshirt also, then if I was the parent of corey white or trai turner i would be in miles' office today asking for an "ABOSLUTE GUARANTEE" that my son would not be greyshirted. if he doesn't give it to me I start looking for a plan b.

The fact is. there isn't anyone on this board that knows how it all went down. So those saying the staff is wrong is in fact wrong themselves. Those who say porter is wrong is wrong themselves.
I posted yesterday a 2010 recruit was having cold feet. it happens the recruit i was told about is elliot porter. I was told it was big recuit. wasn't given the name. i was thinking z. lee due to him being the only player we could not afford to lose. i tried to see if anyone else could help with the info i received. it didn't work.
Since it was elliot. those who say he wasn't informed until yesterday is in fact wrong. Miles missed the t.a.f. function last thursday to meet with porter and his family.
At the end of the day. no one is wrong in this situation. if the players do not get qualified, people have an issue with the coach. if he protects himself by over signing and they get qualified, people have an issue with the coach.
e.p. was promised a scholarship. he still has it if he wants it. He was a candidate to r.s. anyway. this is the school he wanted to come to originally. yes, he has to wait 5 months. this isn't the end of the world. He still has the opportunity to play and to get a degree.
either way, e.p. is going to have to sit and wait where ever he winds up. he's not going to start for a major program from day one. therefore, why wait somewhere you originally didn't want to go vs waiting where you wanted to be? it's not how you get the opportunity that determines your fate/future it's what you do with it.
thanks Crystal

I agree with this!

what about the db from new orleans that broke his neck in high school and the coach gave him a scholarship knowing he couldn't play. you think he screwed them?
oh man, Les gave him a medical hardship that doesnt count against his scholarship numbers. What a generous guy that Les is! He probably paid for the scholarship out of his own pocket too.

It's pretty much a given that if a kid commits to a school and is then injured in his senior year of high school, the college will honor the scholarship.
Recruiting tool used to get kids to commit early. All of the big schools do this.

that would be a ncaa violation which you would have a problem with as well. he can't win with you.
what is one thing the man has done right? can you find it in yourself to say one thing he has done well?
i doubt ole max would want to put himself out there to scrutinize his decisions. you've made them all right max?

so we should pretend like he is this great family man because LSU honored the scholarship of a kid with a broken neck in a way that did not hurt Les Miles' scholarship numbers? Please explain how Les Miles did anything for Delvin Breaux.

he and his agent tricked LSU into thinking Michigan might actually want to hire a retard as their coach and they parlayed that into a big contract extension with a huge buyout. That was very well played.

what do you know about him not being a family man?
lsu honored the scholarship but not miles. who recommended it? the school president is following recruiting so closely to call d.b. and say he was going to give him/lsu is doing this, not l.m. wow.

Miles has done some great things on the recruiting side of the ball. This just happens to be one of those moments where he and his staff dropped the ball, and a kid or two has to get screwed (temporarily) over it.
I don't think anyone on here is saying "Oh my God! Les should be fired for this shite". He made a mistake in likely not having 2 players on board with greyshirting, but it isn't like he is some horrible human being.
Guy is a decent coach and a great recruiter/salesman to get great talent to campus. He will prove his worth these next 2-3 seasons. People are simply more upset at the double standard by the same morons on here that bitched about how dirty Saban was for pulling this greyshirt crap on kids, yet Les has done it.
Like SFP said, LSU has no more higher moral ground to stand on and haven't for a while. The ones that are defending Miles the most are the ones that bitched at Saban the most for this same shite. That is the bigger issue here if people really wanna break it down.

It just pisses me off that this happened and now that it did why choose the OL area for a greyshirt player? why not one of 15 DB?

ok, so what did Les Miles sacrifice by Delvin Breaux getting a medical hardship scholarship and what did he gain? Its almost as if this gesture gives him some good will in the NOLA recruiting area while Les losing absolutely nothing. Such a great man to do this for Delvin Breaux. Every other coach in the country would have laughed at Breaux and told him to go to hell, I'm sure. SAINT LES!!!!!!!!!!!

O.L. can only be O.L. you can not use o.l. for special teams to cover kicks/punts. you don't move them to the d.line, you can move a lb to fb, a wr to db, a db to safety a safety to lb, a d/e to d.t or t.e. a d.t. to o line. a rb to lb, db, wr, ect.
then it's the thought process that you r.s. most o-lineman anyway. you may get a skill player in that you thought would be a r.s. candidate and turns out they aren't. A williams example.
otherwise, you can still use your 3rd string db for other rolls on special teams. d. graff, r brooks, are examples. you can't use your third string o-lineman for anything but a third string o-lineman.
the staff feels like you do not need as many o-lineman as other positions. They feel good with 10-15 rather than 15-20.
with that said, the staff likes e.p.. he's a good student, a good kid, he can be a good one. the question comes, if not him, who? the reason for the choice is outlined above. they still want him, the did not cut him. if he was going to r.s. anyway there is no loss for either party. start the spring and compete.

quote:the kid is treated like a second rate player after busting his arse for three months and building friendships w/ teammates, now he's asked to unpack his dorm and go home. You cannnot defend the poor timing and handling of this w/ the lack of communication. the kid says he was completely caught off guard. Instead of enjoying the scholarship spot he was promised and the experience of his first college semester and season, he's supposed to sit at home while the rest of his teammates move on. To suddenly spring something like that on him is just a shitty way to treat kids
anyway there is no loss for either party. start the spring and compete.

He can work out, study the play book, start working towards a degree, enroll with a banner class, get a head start on the depth chart.. all without using any of his eligibility. Sounds like a fantastic situation to me.
This whole thing is overblown. The kid should be grateful.
