Yes. Damn those liberals for pushing education over ball in hoop skills. How dare they! Everyone knows that cancer and other diseases will be cured by scoring touchdowns and not by a bio engineer in a lab.
Smart thinking there, bud. As you post on a message board on the internet through a device that was all made possible BECAUSE OF MATH AND SCIENCE.

Nope, not financially. Athletics is its own independent and self-sufficient entity that receives no state or student funding. But you already knew that. You’re just trying to find a way to get out of this massive hole your moronic arguments have placed you in. Good luck with that, fricking imbecile.

You should ask chicken for membership on the science board.

Athletics is not independent from the university. Like all departments they have a budget....but dont confuse yourself.
Here's an easy test for you sweetie....what's the name on the Uniform?
An easier test...if the University didnt exist would the athletic department?

Words mean things moron. And when your purposefully try to ignore words that have a direct impact on the statement you’re responding to, like “financially” in this case, it makes whatever you have to say in response completely irrelevant.
I’ll let your friend-in-stupidity explain it to you.
LSU is an outlier in the SEC, as one of only two universities in the conference with an athletic program that takes zero state or student dollars while also giving back to the academic side — in LSU’s case, providing academics with nearly $10 million annually. In fact, only 7 out of 230 athletic programs in the country are self-sufficient. This separation between LSU’s academic and athletic functions is due to the university’s decision in the late 1970s to make Athletics financially independent, allowing LSU to concentrate its assets in the classroom instead of subsidizing athletic programs.

Yes moron....they have a net positive operating budget.
That doesnt make them independent.
It's clear you have no idea other than I like sports....

That’s not true for most schools though. Most schools make very little off sports if they even make a profit at all. LSU is fortunate to be one of the schools that does profit from its big 3 sports (mostly football).

Except I actually give money to academics. So there’s that.

Most of these people think LSU football would still be a thing if the college closed.

I understand that due to how the state constitution is structured, higher education is often one of the only areas in which funding can be cut. As such, when we're experiencing shortfalls, LSU is often forced to make tough decisions in the name of balancing the budget.
How has Alexander shown himself to be successful in this area? Do you think his doom and gloom testimony in front of the legislature had any actual impact on LSU's treatment by the legislature?
Were you in favor of his being placed in his position without any national search for candidates?
On the academic side, what has Alexander done to benefit the university? Please site sources and links so that I can learn more. I genuinely want to see what his successes here have been.

Let’s get back to how much they make, and how you’re stupid enough to think it’s only $16 million.
Youve also states several times in this thread that academics is the real money maker. So talk to me about academics’ operating budget, since you know, that’s what making money means to you.

FAIL AGAIN.

500 million a year operating budget.
Look I get it. You're a fan. You dont like the academics. That's ok. But to assume their independent (financially independent means the budget is not commingled due to the fungibility of money) is wrong. Financial independence allows them to operate a huge budget relative to the size WITHOUT meddling from the usual political forces. Or loss of operating money from other university expenses. But primarily to allow them to operate at a net profit relative to the University. It's a plan both benefit by.
But keep assuming your "team" will be there if the university closed because they're "independent"

In terms of dollars brought into the university
16 million is NOTHING compared to the grant money of an R1. Sorry
