One big issue is getting all the trucks, cameras, and equipment to put on a televised sports event

Yes, follow the money. ESPN is nothing but eyeballs on a tv from home. SMG relies on ticket sales.

The money is in H-town, the 4th largest city and TV market in the USA.

What makes all these neutral games different to start the season are sponsors. Advocare is the corporate sponsor for our game. It's not all that different from a bowl game. That's where the extra money comes from and makes these neutral games so attractive to schools.
That's also why they don't want to move the game to LSU or BYU. They want to keep a neutral venue much like a bowl game would do in this situation.
The people ponying up the money are going to want to make a decision that is in their best interest.

I don't think I've been irrational in any way. Your namecalling would normally be taken as a sign by me that you are conceding the argument.
You're adamant the game will be played this weekend and in New Orleans. Confidence is great, but namecalling does not strengthen your argument. New Orleans has problems of its own - a little bit of ran is now a major emergency there.
So, what are you going to say if the game has to be postponed/cancelled (which by no means am I saying is certain)?

Who knows...Probably more like splitting up of the money.

Short answer Advocare and ESPN contract to do kickoff game. Sell a bunch of ads and sponsorship deals.
Contract with schools to play at a specific time and date.
The paying sponsors and folks who bought ad time at a specific time for a spec matchup want their ads run at 9:00PM with a top 25 team not at 2AM replay of USL!
No LSU fan wants this game to come off more than ESPN.

I don't underestimate the point that appearing to be even handed is one of ESPN's objectives in dealing with BYU and LSU.
New Orleans has a huge appeal to LSU. For many of the same reasons, it has negative appeal to BYU. And there is weather uncertainty.
If ESPN is inclined to go to NOLA it cannot cave too quickly to that choice and maintain credibility with others not named LSU.

People need to realize a critical part of these "proposals" are the hard costs the venue has to put on a game.
Staffing, security, lights, etc.
People think it's about the venue buying the game. It's actually the opposite. They don't want to lose money putting it on.

Well Dallas does not equal close. Many fans are flying in which means cancelled flights and new tickets. ESPN doesn not want empty stands because it doesnt play well on TV when you have to show sideline shots constantly to avoid the empty upper deck. Regardless of who is playing showing huge areas of empty seating gives the impression that the game is not important.
ESPN is probably trying to work out percentages with the various sites for their best deal. Attendence will be low no matter where they move it to now.

When I was a kid, LSU played its first game of the season in Tiger Stadium. A game against Rice, The Citadel, or Oregon State. I miss the good ole days.

Not sure about ESPN, but there was talk of the proceeds of the game going to the flood victims in Houston and people taking a collection to support Red Cross efforts in Houston.
If this occurs, I can guarantee that the money will miraculously disappear before it gets to Jefferson Parish.
