What good is a safe retuner that’s fielding punts inside the 5 yard line consistently?

Good points. However, CEH as decisive and elusive as he is, isn’t very patient and has missed more than a few wide open holes opened for him. Curry is even worse at this. Brossette despite being slow in the top end is very patient and waits for a hole to open. Leveon Bell like even.

And I agree. We need a vertical threat. Anyone know a burner a la a Chark we can put in?

You also said we were doomed by drops but in your notes I don’t see where any drops were listed other than the last drive

Jefferson dropped a 30yd pass in the 2Q that was a 30 yard gain, potentially a 55yd TD if he keeps his feet.

Tell me what sucked. Be specific please. I don’t see how they coached scared.

I already admitted to having beef with some play calls but that is fairly normal during any game with the ability to watch in retrospect.

On that slant I’m pretty sure Burrow changed the play. They showed DB blitz from slot & went to Dillon on the slant thinking it was hot & it wasn’t. The DB was bluffing.

As a sum total I agree with Lester Earl. The game was called well. A couple of baffling series but that happens

I remember the play being a tough catch, not an out and out drop.

No better or worse than one that can’t catch a punt.

DB never touches this ball. Jefferson mis-times the pass and trips over his own feet after it hits him in the hands

I'm with you. It's not a perfect stable at RB this year. Rather than having one ultra talented guy like Guice or LF, we've got 2 primary guys with different skill sets. Honestly I wouldn't hate a 2 back look with both of them on the field since they can fill such different roles. Fake a hand off to NB and float one over to CEH in a short yardage situation for instance.

Remember the Ole Miss game last year? Williams and Guice were on the field together for several plays. Guice rushed for over 200 yards and Williams had 100 yards receiving. But for whatever reason, that look was largely eliminated the rest of the season.

Thought the DB obscured the ball. I didn't record the game and can't find a replay.

Naw. It was a perfect throw Jefferson drops possibly because of his own mis-step

If you’re going to crush the play calling at least rewatch the game & realize how many plays were foiled by our OL. You have to separate that from the plays that are called.

I agree to a point. It seemed like they had 3-4 drives where they completely abandoned the short pass game which would’ve at least slowed the rush. You pointed it out in your note where we were at midfield and had back to back runs on 1 & 2 downs. It just seemed like we were primed to find a rhythm and the play calling had stretches where it wouldn’t allow it.

I'll take your word for it.

It was the only drop outside of the last drive, a drive we were lucky to even get.

He’s making a diving attempt at a throw, how is that a drop?

Even if it is, so 1 drop?

If that’s a drop then you can blame burrow for an overthrow to Jefferson that would’ve also been a TD

I don’t understand why people keep dismissing the drops on the last drive. You want to hold everything to an unattainable standard yet in the instance of the last drive want to look past the drops. It’s weird.

Yea we were lucky to get the drive but we got it. The plays counted. When you are within 1 score they always matter.

It wasn’t a diving catch. It hit his hands when both feet were on the ground. It was perfectly thrown & he was tripping on his own accord.

Overthrow on the corner end zone route was a tough ball. You can’t under throw that ball. And the window is small. Not really a knock on Burrow. He wasn’t that open. We still got 6 on that drive.

The o-line was a limiting factor for sure but Ensminger's play calling isn't totally immune from criticism or at least questioning. I don't feel like he called a great game even within conceding him the limitations of a bad o line. Part of his job as OC is how he responds to what the defense is going and I was disappointed in how he countered Grantham's aggressive defense. I thought he did well in his play calling at Auburn, even though the on field execution of the plays wasn't always there. In the chess match of coordinators, Grantham got the better of him.

Again, not entirely on Coach E but there was some head scratchers yesterday that slowed some drives. But he shouldn't have to call a perfect game to win. Yesterday's game had several issues that contributed to the loss. Hopefully they can correct them and get back on track. Still a lot to play for.
