And pessimism isn't going to change anything. Your worrying won't make things any better. I say be optimistic and enjoy the ride.

No, I wasn't hanging with Chavis today. But we've all heard the reports that Collins and Eugene are flat out studs, If you want to worry about having one freshman starting on our D... well, you go for it. The only thing to really worry about is depth. As long as we don't have injuries in the DB corps I think we'll be fine.
Well if you don't know what's in Chavis' mind, then just quit claiming something for him. All of our young players are talented studs according to the report, but to have the talent transfer to quality performance against SEC teams require playing time and experience. If you are NOT worried about having one freshman starting at week 1...well, you go for it and be ready for a heart attack. Depth chart is another reason that justifies this concern.

Just in case you don't know sir, there is a large grey area between optimism and pessimism called objectivity. No one is freaking out or anything, but what has been seen still needs to be addressed.

I'm willing to wait a week and see what Chavis thinks before I panic. I expect that he won't be worried.

Yeah, playing on freshman at CB is going to make that North Texas game scary close... The fact of the matter is that we've got North Texas, Washington, and Idaho to get these guys some experience before we hit the SEC schedule. They'll be ready for the SEC games.

It's true that depth is a concern, but they've got the better part of a month to shore it up. We'll be okay.

And how exactly are you going to address it? By worrying on a message board? How exactly does this have any effect on the season?

Just like I said, no one is panic or freaking out, but what has been seen still needs to be addressed. True that worrying or discussion won't make things any better, but that's just what we do in here, right?

None of the stuff we do here will have an effect on the season, then why don't y'all just all leave this site and quit talking and posting and bashing? You're making me laugh sir...

I'm kind of expecting a cb corps similar to our rbs. If a guy lets a couple big plays someone else will sub in and take over. We recruit some of the best dbs in the country. Will their inexperience bite us sometimes? Yes, but I hope and trust that our coaching staff can work around it. We will probably not utilize our nickle package as much, but only time will tell how great these young men can be.

I can almost agree with that, but in reality what we usually do in here is overreact to everything that affects our team.

Because I like discussing our team... when the rant isn't freaking out over things (rare I know).

All I'm trying to say is that having concern for this even younger secondary during the national title run is quite reasonable and justifiable, and just because people see things with a little objectivity, it doesn't mean they are overreacting or being pessimistic. Plus, some people tend to "overreact" because they know their reaction won't have any effect on the reality, and that gives them the free ticket to speak out their concern. I don't see anything inappropriate with that on a message board.

I expect Chavis to play his corners on an island much less as an adjustment, excluding Simon. You can roll the safeties to Collins' side rather easily.
I expect more zone coverage now, more dime (3 safeties, Reid Martin, and Eugene, and an increased emphasis on creating qb pressure with our front 4 alone.
The loss of Mathieu is a big blow, but I expect chief can make these obvious and basic adjustments just fine.

I never said there was anything inappropriate with it, but as I said, I'm not worried. While Collins (CB) and Eugene (nickle) don't have any game experience, they've had a year to learn the system while competing in practice with Mo, TM, Simon and Brooks. Between that, their talent, and schedule that is set up well for them to get some early experience, I just can't get too concerned.

wonder if Ronald Martin could move to corner. Thought he was recruited as a corner and has more of the build of a corner. He did get some solid playing time last season and looked good when he got in.

I doubt it. He is heir apparent to Reid, and I wouldnt be surprised to see him in the other safety slot in dime when Eugene is roaming.

Yup, let's watch these kids play before we start crowning them as all SEC.

still have Simon and solid safeties. hopefully the freshmen pick it up. the DL should help take some pressure off.

J Collins will get his big chance to shine...super talent, and quite honestly, as funny as this may sound, lsu may be a better cover team in their base defense than they were with TM7. If every you were going to start as a freshman in major college football, in the defensive backfield, it helps to have all americans on the DL and future first rounders and all-americans in the backfield with you. LSU will be fine.
