quote:I agree. The defense last year was carried by the offense in several games. Our defense had quite a few let downs at various times during the year, moreso than the offense, imo.
the defense needs to be consistently better.

The same could be said for Alabama.
Agreed, both teams we a couple plays away from finishing with 2 more losses.

We were a couple of plays/penalties from being undefeated last year.
Despite the talent, we've been very lucky the last three seasons.

Or unlucky not to have blown through our schedule. It's all in the way you look at it.

Oh shite. You gotta go all the way to the damn Netherlands to find a Tiger fan who at least acknowledges the anti-LSU argument.

Who in their right mind would totally dismiss the possibility of an upset from just one of the following: Miss St, S. Car, Arky, Ole Miss or Alabama?
True. Any of the above teams can beat us. We can go 6-6 or 10-2 easily.

Actually, I spent months in the Netherlands and couldn't find an anti-LSU fan, but I did meet some "true" Tiger fans there ironcally.
Listen, suck on Saint Nicky's dick ifin ya want. Bammers said they would win right away with Nicky given all the talent they had coming back. Noooooooow, it's........just give us a coupla years and we'll be back. Face it, Da "Bear" is gone. Those days are over. The days of ANYONE dominating the SEC like that are over, and bammer is not even f....ing close. Oh, they might sneak in a couple of 10-2 seasons.......in the near future..............maybe. But, come back and talk to me after a couple of crystal ball celebrations!!!

quote:I agree with your view as well. Since '05, there have been so many plays or calls that were deciding factors in a number of games. Fortunatley, most of those calls, plays, & bounces have went in the Tigers' favor.

Les is 34-6. He could just as easily be 22-18 as he could be 39-1. UGA was the only loss that we were beaten handily.

I hate when people say this. We were also a couple of plays away from being 7-5 last year.
The bottom line is, the plays happened and we ended up 10-2.
ETA: Actually we were 14-2, my bad.

BTW, Flynn was considered to be a possible liability last year and lowered our pre-season ranking. We were a couple of plays/penalties from being undefeated last year.
We were preseason ranked #2.

The only words that can possibly make sense following

Here's a little something to chew on. Guilbeau makes a big deal out of the fact that Hatch wasn't a major college recruit. OK, point taken.
Well, there was a guy who was considered a "must have prosepct" a few years back by the name of Robert Lane. Some of you may remember him. He was in the same class as JaMarcus and Matt Flynn. He was a five-star QB who ended up at Ole Miss, and became a FULLBACK!!!
POINT: stars don't matter. Heart, desire, talent, attitude, and smarts matter. Brodie Croyle held all of Alabama's high school records till JaMarcus broke them. I was never worried about going up against Brodie Croyle, were you?
Give these guys a chance, and, most importantly, have some damn faith in the coaching ability of the guys who just gave you a national championship for crying out loud.

This is the mentality that I just cannot fathom.
A team that:
In 2005...
1. Had its entire season under a new coach thrown into total chaos by the worst natural disaster in the history of the country;
2. Lost by far its best running back to a season-ending injury two weeks before the season;
3. Lost its starting quarterback in the midst of the SEC championship game and for the entire bowl game against a top ten team;
4. Went 10-1 in the regular season, entered the SEC CG ranked #3 in the nation, lost its starting quarterback during the game and lost to the HOME team playing 80 miles from its campus, then dropped all the way down to the fricking PEACH BOWL and
In 2006...
1. Got flat-out fricking cheated by the refs in the biggest game of the season at Auburn;
2. Had to play FOUR road games against teams ranked in the top ten, including three against teams ranked in the top FIVE;
3. Had to break in a practically brand new offensive line due to recruiting deficiencies under the previous coaching regime;
4. Had injuries and NCAA clearinghouse issues that caused a shortage of healthy, prepared running backs for the first half of the season, during which time we just happened to have to play the two biggest games of the year on the road against top-5 teams with outstanding defenses and
In 2007...
1. Didn't have one single holding penalty assessed against an opposing offensive lineman until the NINTH GAME OF THE SEASON, despite having possibly the best defensive front in the country and being among the top pass rushing teams in the country;
2. Had our #1 draft pick starting quarterback declare for the NFL draft a year early;
3. Lost our (intended backup) starting quarterback for two games, including the SEC championship game, due to injuries, and had him severely hampered and limited for several other games for the same reason;
3. Lost our best wide receiver for about half the season due to injuries;
4. Had the most decorated defensive player in the history of the program neutralized for half the season by a cheap-shot chop block in midseason;
5. Dealt with rampant speculation throughout the season that we were going to lose our head coach, our defensive coordinator and God knows who else and
STILL WON THIRTY FOUR frickING GAMES, A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, AN SEC CHAMPIONSHIP, TWO SEC WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS, TWO BCS BOWLS AND THREE BOWLS OVERALL, NEVER ONCE FINISHING LOWER THAN #5 IN THE COUNTRY during that time...
was LUCKY?!?!?!?!?!
Are you fricking crazy?

quote:Signed, Matt Flynn. (3 int's in one half against Bama in a game in which we won, and a couple against Arky in a game we should have still won). It's very possible to overcome mediocre QB play with a good defense.
Our guys are either very inexperienced or very average or both. It only takes one or two bad plays by the qb to turn a game in the wrong direction.
