He isn't reading the play very well.
he's starting to look like someone with ++athletic traits who's too small to be rush end or 3-4 olb and doesn't have the awareness to be a true lber. i don't think he'd do very well in a ss/rover type role either. i was hoping he would develop into a true olb.

You do know there are players in HS who because of their speed and size can dominate without needing a high FB IQ. And he did the same his freshman year but once they figured out how to scheme for him, which they did his last 2 freshman games where he didn't make an impact, It became necessary for him to be able to read an offense. I'm not sure he is there. Football IQ has nothing to do with coaching. You either have it or you don't. I rewatched USC and Nichols and he is constantly taking himself out of the play and is easily blocked because he doesn't read the offense well. Maybe it's as simple as that. And most of those 3rd downs they were getting to extend drives were right at him.
EXACTLY!!

"Once a blocker ties up Perk, he's done. He just doesn't seem to be able to "break free" from a blocker. Seems like a strength issue to me."
It's more of an ego issue. He is as strong as he can be for his size. The problem is he seems to want to grapple with an offensive lineman to see who can throw the other to the ground. The problem is he is "grappling" with guys 50 pounds or more.
His job is not to throw an offensive lineman to the ground, it is to escape their blocks and make a tackle. Also, the DT's must do a better job of engaging with the offensive lineman so that OL can't make it to the next level.

To give up on this season and go pro, hoping scouts see something in him that the LSU coaches clearly don’t.
He’s failed at LSU and was one of the most hyped players we’ve had in a long time.

Now we’re moving him to Star, which is super complex and requires instinctual reaction.

Then we put Harold in the Nickel position on some plays and again he was useless playing that spot.
Well this is ignorant.
