I think basketball is probably the hardest sport to call. I think he does well in everything else.

Hanagriff? Puts me to sleep but he is extremely sarcastic and it is pretty entertaining.

Ford keeps up with the pace well enough but i just can't see hearing him pilot the ship.

I'm a pretty big Jim fan as it was a treat to be able to pick up an LSU broadcast growing up in Mississippi. If the wind was just right we could make it out thru the static for night games. I guess that still sticks with me. He does miss some things that I agree are irritating but i would love LOVE to see any one of the idjits on here that bash him consistently perform their job for 30 years and at the level he has.

Respect what he has done and continues to do and just be glad you're not an ole miss fan....those morons on the radio are pathetic.

I think Patrick Wright, if he improves a bit more, will be ready to take over Jim's duties in 5 years. He is doing well with the women's game. I would rather have Wright and maybe J-man step up and work along side him. We need a color analyst who has played the game. Ford is good at making observations and keeping up with stats, but that doesn't give us much insight.

I get your point--even though exagerrated BUT

WTF is he supposed to say!?!? Does he know in advance how far the ball will go???

People please think for a second---

When you are at a baseball game, a guy hits a deep fly ball...what you are thinking (homerun?) is what Hawthorne has to SPEAK about.

Is every thought that goes through you people's heads always correct? NO

The difference is you dont have to tell everyone that you thought that may be a homerun..Hawthorne does.

And to this thread/rantards...

I'm usually pretty PC on the boards, but I have to say that Jim Hawthorne freaking sucks. He is an embarrassment to LSU and if he or his family loved the Tigers as much as they claim to he would have stepped down by now.

I'm sorry, but that's just how I feel. He is horrible.

Hawthorne is terrible with football, I can't even imagine what he would be like with basketball. I have heard other announcers in the SEC and the best by far is Bob Kessling from Tennessee. The main purpose for a radio play by play announcer is to let the radio audience know what is going on at all times. Hawthorne fail miserably at that. He botches the names of players all the time (with football at least).

I really think Hawthorne is just too much of a negatiger fan...it really is hard to listen too. I never know the score or how much time is left, and it's frustrating. He's also not good at letting us know where the ball is. Twice tonight I heard something like this:

"State at the top of the key.....Dunk! Miss! Foul!"

He's really just lost his BBall touch.

frick yall, Hawthorne is awesome. Until you have even come close to what he has done for LSU over the past nearly 30 years then come back and say something. I wouldn't want anyone else behind the mic for LSU!

:asskisser: :asskisser: :asskisser:

He's become incompetent at calling games over the radio. That's what his job is. Needs to be re-assigned somewhere in the LSUAD, along with Mr. High School........

I have no problem following Hawthorne's radio broadcast and the other names I am hearing mentioned in this thread are loaded with suckage. Therefore I will stick with Jim for now. That is all.

Are you serious? Hawthorne is so much a part of the history of LSU baseball, he has the job as long as he wants it...as for complaints with his calling of baseball--see my post above.

I forget what game it was but the 87 football team was in town getting honored and so Mike Archer was in town as well. I'm standing in front of the PMAC before the game and near Tiger Radio stage. Mike Archer walks up to Jim and this is what he says, "well Jim, after all these years I don't think we've ever gotten to really meet up and talk, how you doing!?"

Jim looks at Mike Archer with this "why the hell are you extending your hand out to me" look on his face and basically just gives him a very insincere hand shake and blows him off. Mike Archer turned around and had this look on his face as though he were saying "what a dick".

I'll never forget that. I love the excitement and passion for LSU that Jim has but over the years he really has become a pompous horse's arse. He publicly corrects every single partner he has on the air (when the partner is usually right anyway) and can't stand to have someone know more about what's going on than him. He talks as if the world bows down to him when really, 75% of the LSU fanbase can't stand him and wishes he would just retire.

I know for a fact that Kevin Ford and Doug Morreau can't stand to work for him because of the "I'm always right and will argue with you on the air if not correct you right away" schtick he has going on.

I think Hawthorne is blind, and can't see shite, but he's a really nice guy with a great voice who loves LSU...He does make following the games difficult at times though.

My 3 man dream team for when Hawthorne retires would be, MFP doing play by play and Carl the Cat & Fish doing color.

I'd fricking quit listening if that boring arse Hanagriff was involved.
