Anyone that thinks last nights broadcast was done well needs to listen to a quality broadcast of a basketball game, it seemed at times that they could not see the game, did not know who had the possession arrow, Chris Johnson Fouls out (no he didn’t)that’s the end of regulation (no it’s not 2.8 seconds left) etc. and much much more.
He is so bad at keeping up with the action that I just listen for the crowd reaction. At one point I heard something like this: "Tigers go in for an easy layup now State has a 3 on 2 and there's a foul by the Tigers" Top that off with his negativity and it just isn't a very well done broadcast. Sounds like someone's mean drunk grandfather

I loved when he ripped Storm Warren a new one, so bad that if Storm would have been listening he may have killed himself, then about a minute later after he blocked 2 shots he said,"Storm Warren has come off the bench and played phenomenally." That was funny.

Hey Thib, you know, you are exactly right!

Just thought I would throw a little comic relief in the thread and maybe take a little heat off of ole Jimmy boy!

I think as most Tiger fans have grown up while listening to him will give him a bow just for particular historic moments (National Championships/ Blue Grass Miracle, Etc.). BUt any good announcer will always say that the MOMENT is the important thing not the person calling the MOMENT. That said, I can't but think he has gotten noticably negative and worn out recently. His call of the LSU/AR game was horrible. It's alright for me to get all hyper and angry with the action, but the call guy has to keep it together and JUST CALL THE GAME. I think a great call man when he does it is Tim Brando.

I did not listen to the whole game last night, just toward the end of regulation and the OT's. While I heard some of the commentary that has been discussed, such as "got it, lost it, got it..." it did not bother me. On the contrary, Hawthorne's call gave me a sense of just how hectic the pace of the game was in the closing minutes. I can understand that the announcer at times cannot see the action clearly, or simply cannot keep the listening audience clued in to who has the ball at every second, especially when there is a scramble for the ball. I appreciated the effort, and I certainly would not want to be the announcer.

Jim is well-respected in the SEC community but he does seem to get befuddled now and again. I fear one day we'll here, "Tigers win! Tigers win!... Uh wait, no; Tigers lose!

Hawthorne

Thanks for all of your dedicated years to Tiger Athletics! You are a fantastic announcer. You were calling plays before most of us were born. We're sorry that sometimes we expect you to call the games like an auctioneer and relay to us every dribble of every possession, mistake free.

You rock!

I didn't read all the pages on this thread but.....

Hawthorne and Ford have TERRIBLE on-air chemistry. They trip over each other. Ford talks too much, IMO.
