How long to you go before you either try a different scheme or try a different QB?

If history repeats itself, it will be sometime around the Arkansas game.

I think Thomas Parsons' suspension is over, and I would really like to see if he can play tackle. Black & Barksdale are just getting worked to the edge because their feet aren't quick enough to stay with these ends. Parsons was running in the 4.7 range out of high school at 270. He's had a redshirt year and is up to 295. I've never seen him play at the collegiate level, so I may be off on this one, but I'd like to see him get a shot.

On some plays the tackles are getting beat around the edge, and the interior guys are getting pushed into the pocket. That is just not good enough. No LSU QB should have to be told what the plan is for when everything breaks down in protection. On the plays where pressure is just coming from the edges or when one of the inside guys is getting manhandled, Jefferson could work on his movement in the pocket. When to step up, when to slide to the left, slide to the right, criss cross! Ya, JJ needs to work on his cha cha slide.

This.

Good QB's look like they're standing still in the shotgun after getting snap. See also Mallett, all Texas Tech QB's, Bradford, Tebow, Locker, et all.

bullshite. Jefferson is scared to death out there and if you can't see that, you don't WANT to see that.

I can see that Jefferson is scared. I see him hold onto the ball to long. I also see linemen getting beat or run over. The two problems go hand in hand. Jefferson needs to make his reads and get rid of the ball and the line needs to at least get in the way of a defensive player.

On another side, the running game in well below par, which is caused by bad line play. I know other teams are stacking the box. But the did the same last year and LSU still managed to move the ball. Now, even on running plays linemen are getting knocked back. But I guess that is Jefferson's fault.

I'll go ahead and give myself credit for being a football knowledgeable poster.

There is only so much blame you can remove from Jefferson's shoulders. I have re-watched every game outside of the 1st quarter of the Washington game more than once with the remote control in my hand. I can be as critical as you want about the offensive line in each and every game, but this does not absolve JJ's lack of field vision and decision making.

How would you go about criticizing the offensive line for JJ getting sacked on fourth down on at least three occasions and again on a two point conversion after rolling out away from pressure?

I'm not really sure why we don't see more bootlegs or misdirection, especially versus Florida. But, there's not a QB on our roster that couldn't eventually find an open receiver with unlimited time. JJ does not have the best mechanics or accuracy of the bunch, but his mobility should have set him apart. Thus far, I don't think it has.

If the QB position is going to limit our passing game, I just as soon see Russell Shepard back there. He can throw five yard routes on 3rd and 7 as well as JJ, I'm sure, and will definitely be a better runner.

Right on.

Play to JJ's strengths. Move the pocket, misdirections plays, etc.. He is not a prototypical pocket passer and we are forcing him to become one. It goes against the grain.

The line is having trouble, JJ is compounding it, but the coaching has to be the one to make the adjustments. Either adjust the playcalling, adjust the player's mechanics, or adjust the players(as in new personnel). It seems we just do more of the same each game.

Agreed. It gives the speed rusher even more of an advantage imo. You can form a pocket better by having the OL push the speed rusher past the QB, use his aggressiveness against him, see?

Either this is a bad habit or bad coaching. Either way it should be an easy fix.

With that said, does it bother you that he feels the line blocked ok? or that JJ should just throw it away?

Do you ever think Miles is like a Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde?
Says one thing in front of the press, but when that locker room door shuts...he chews the team out for everything we see.

JJ deserves some of the blame for bad pass protection.(or play design) he's dropping way to deep. the OT's have no chance when the DE/outside Blitz can almost run straight up field and get to him.

I'm sure he does. In fact, maybe he has every game this year.

Is the arse chewing getting results?

there is also the school of thought that says if you can't block them, why try? Just put the QB back there 7 yards and make the DL run 10yrds sprints to try to sack him every time we throw the ball. The only problem with that is you have to have a safety valve to dump the ball off to if the pressure gets too close and with 4WR/Dickson or 5WR we don't have the RB on the field to dump it off to
