re: How did Brandon Harris and the LSU offense regress so much from last year?

To be honest, we didn't regress that much. If you look at Brandon Harris' start last year through his first four games, he averaged 8 completions and 80 yards per game and had 2 passing TDs through four games. The South Carolina, Florida, etc., stretch is when he played really well and had 200+ yards passing per game. He struggled against Bama, put up big yards against Arkansas and Ole Miss, but after the games were mostly out of hand and was bad against aTm with 83 yards passing. He played well against Tech in the bowl, but they had the worst passing D out there, so that was no surprise.
I don't know what happened after that South Carolina/UF stretch, but after that, our offense really struggled. Also, we're predictable so teams started scouting our tendencies and shutting us down more.

I hope for BH's sake, he sticks around if we get a stud hire HC and then we'll have a real QB battle next year. Could be really good at that position if we get the right guys in here.

Harris has size, big arm strength and speed, so talent is not the issue. He has always seemed overconfident in talking about the his capabilities (along with the offense). At the same time, the offense has been poorly coached. He used to use his feet when he first started playing and he ran great. Now he doesn't run as much when things break down and his accuracy continues to be an issue. With a good QB coach, I think he could do good things and use the abilities that he has to help LSU if Etling doesn't continue to progress. But he has to put the work in.

One of the mysteries of the universe. We've got Etling out there putting up the same numbers that Harris did last year, but we've regressed to the point that he's considered an upgrade.
You've missed a major factor. Give Etling last years Oline...

Harvey Williams spoke about this a few weeks ago on the radio. He was of the opinion that going to the George (Charlatan) Whitfield passing academy has hurt him and made him unable to throw the 5-10 yard out routes. Harvey said he realized this after sending his own son there. Ten he sent him to Ed Zaunbrecher who solved the problem

Brandon Harris REGRESS????
Brandon Harris NEVER PROGRESSED!!!!!!
Harris couldn't read a defense if you gave him a headset and gave him the instructions at the line of scrimmage.
Watching Harris in the pocket is like watching that Penguin Movie. HAPPY FEET.
The guy cant stay in the pocket. The minute he feels pressured he gets HAPPY FEET

quote:No, he didn't. You need to remember reality and not just some eye catching stats. The offense did not move the ball consistently Mett's senior year. It was toss dive into the nose tackle, toss dive into the nose tackle, and then amazing pass play on 3rd and 12 routinely. Mett never improved his pocket awareness and frequently got caught holding the ball too long. Go back and watch the games.
Mett improved dramatically too.

Handcuffs and opponents adjusting to our non-adjustments.

Mett was already sort of developed.
Matt Flynn got better.
