knight...

What does Saban being an arguably superior coach have to do with anything in this thread?

You guys are funny as all hell.

The titles won at LSU...I dont give a rats arse about what an ex coach did at another stop.

I did get a little sad when Curley got fired from Muscle Shoals High though

Threads like this remind me just how much I hate this site many times during football season.

It really is. Kinda sad too.

You summed it up perfectly with your post earlier:

13-0 OMG Our players are awesome!

13-1 OMG Our head coach is terrible.

Wouldn't you also be a fool for judging Miles coaching improvements on just one season?

Les is better than any other coach in the Country at bringing in other coaches. Guys that end up being really good fits. We just keep upgrading and upgrading. I also believe LSU is at the top when it comes to talent evaluations as well. Guys like MC and TM were not on anyone's radars coming out of high school and they are all americans at LSU.

I agree with you that we probably would not have won anyway. Bama had our number that night. But it wouldn't have 'looked' so bad and been so embarassing...you know, the goosegg and all...the not crossing the fifty yard line, that stuff.

I know it's all speculation (but it is the offseason so we get a pass on speculation), however:
a) Any single play that can turn the game into a different ebb-n-flow could've changed the outcome. Even when the game was a two-score game, any score by us immediately changes the ebb-n-flow, i.e., Bama has to receive a KO, convert 1st downs, etc.
b) Players (especially competitors) relish the chance to redeem themselves and it's flawed to judge the future by the past. Had Bama done so, they would've never attempted a FG in game two considering how poorly they did in game 1. So just because JL played poorly in game 1 does not mean he would have played poorly in game 2.

Les has improved some since we hired him. And if he's smart, he'll improve a lot post 1/9/12.

He blows people out in games now consistently instead of waffling.

Here's a follow-up question.

How has the rant improved as a forum for intelligent discussion?
It hasn't.

I almost started a separate thread on this. But then I realized that the Rant is not really designed to be a forum for intelligent discussion. In an anonymous forum such as this, all it takes is a few people that are set on trolling/attention whoring and such to skew the site. You could have a tightly moderated site but I wouldn't want to see that for this place.

Les is still the same. Recruits great. Having better assistants has improved us a team. I'm just happy we have Chavis. Chavis chavis chavis.

No one can say that Les has improved after seeing that colossal failure on 1/09. I don't care if it is one game and we were 13-0. You don't quit on your own team.

Well just when you think he has, you get the NC game. It's very hard to argue with his results, outside of a few games like 1/9 and games like the Ole Miss debacle.

His game day decisions, are far too conservative in my opinion, but because he plays good D & Special teams he can get away with it against most teams.

It's when the game calls for adjustments during play that I think he falls short. Maybe it's not him, & it's his coaches, but I no longer believe that Gary Crowton was the only reason for our poor offensive showing during his last 2 yrs.

75 W's in 7 years & 2 NC appearances, with 1W is something every single Tiger fan would have signed up for upon Saban's departure. Come'on Man?

He's hired better coaches i.e. Chavis and Kragthorpe in my opinion. That's how he's improved. Les is the same ole Les he was before.
