Assisted evacuations could begin as early as Friday and evacuations from hospitals and medical care facilities would begin Saturday. Evacuations by rail also could begin Saturday.
Contra-flow, in which all lanes of major highways would direct traffic away from the storm impact area, could begin Saturday or very early Sunday, Jindal said.
"These are the timetables as we see them now," Jindal said. "We all hope this will be a false alarm."
Looks like this could affect the game, after all.

Gustav is weakenig over Haiti as we speak...moving 10 mph NW. It could regain strength, but come on. This thing wouldn't touch the coast until Labor Day.

Bobby obviously didn't consult the Rant's braintrust. Doesn't he know it won't hit until Monday or Tuesday? No need to start evacuating people until Monday morning, at the earliest.

Again, what I have heard is that the Gulf is very warm right now, which means power and speed for hurricanes.

Seriously? No problem then. Everybody could just evac Sunday night, no big deal.

Let's just play the game and then cram all 92,000 or even more into the PMAC afterwards.

seriously? You're willing to actually trust the government to protect/help you? Good luck man, you've got some faith. I really can't think of one thing I'd want to do less than trust the government on this. They did a bang up job last time right? I'll wait to see if they ever do anything right before putting my life/property on the line.

If this thing continues to escalate it will be sooooooo much more organized than Katrina. Jindal is the man with the plan!!!!

Exactly, they don't even know where this hurricane is going. It could hit Texas or Lake Charles. Monday there is a chance winds could hit Louisiana and Jindal said if it hits Louisiana it would be Tuesday.
Let's hope it keeps going west.
Does anyone know where this high pressure system that is suppose to interact with the hurricane is? Any info?

I don't think there is much the government can do to "shoo it away". I think what the previous poster meant is that the government is going to be very proactive in getting information to people and ordering evacuations with plenty of time to spare if need be (which is why it could affect the game).

I'm hoping I'm right about this, but I think we're safe this weekend, I'm just worried about next week, look I love Tiger Football as much as the next person on this site, but frankly, I'm much more worried about that hurricane, that's the last thing this state needs and I surely don't feel like riding out another one! So here's hoping that thing doesn't come our way, huh?

Jindal say they are 66% unsure where this storm is going. Once it hits cuba it could easily change directions.
