I want the QB's to have as many snaps as possible before Auburn. I hope the game isn't cancelled. I care.

"If I was in Austin, I probably wouldn't be that concerned about Gustav either. However, those on the coast would prefer this game be played and next week is just another normal week!"

I never said I wasn't concerned about Gustav. I have a ton of friends and family still in New Orleans. Don't twist my words.

This is a non Division 1 opponent and LSU stands nothing to gain from playing them. If we didn't have lightweights Troy and North Texas after this game, I would say Appy St. is a decent tune up. Nevertheless, we have two crappy opponents to play before traveling to Auburn, so this game doesn't matter.

This is a historic game. It will be the first time two defending national champions from the previous year have ever faced off against each other. So, no, I don't want to see it cancelled at all.

That's a good enough reason for me.

"They finished #44 in Sagarin's poll last year."

While that is true, where did Appy State finish in the other computer poll rankings? If it isn't in the top 112 of D1 teams, how does playing this game help our SOS in regards to other computer components?

Dignan, you forget 3 very important points:

1. Ask Michigan how much of a "preseason game" app st. is.

2. Lets say we cancel the game, and like you said, no big deal, we have two more "preseason games left before Auburn." If the hurrican hits us tuesday, do you think there is a decent chance our game next saturday is cancelled? Leaving us with 1 game before Auburn?

3. We will play App St., if not this week, then later in the season, the game won't be "cancelled", just postponed, so the SOS argument is moot.

You really have no clue how important these games are, do you? The first game is important, even against a crappy team. You can't duplicate game conditions in practice. Young players get the nerves out of their system and get some playing time. Coaches get to evaluate players and correct early season problems.

Eliminating one of our tune up games is not helpful under any circumstances as it puts the team one week behind our SEC opponents. Anyone who thinks otherwise really don't understand sports.

"So you don't see how playing against a team that runs the spread will help us for when we play Auburn? And that every game we can get in prior to Auburn helps our QBs and our young CBs? If you don't see this then me calling you unknowledgable was giving you too much credit."

South Endzone,

What type of offense does North Texas run?

That's right, you fricking moron. The spread offense.

So, LSU will be getting experience against a team that runs the spread offense before Auburn.

And I'm unknowledgeable?

"1. Ask Michigan how much of a "preseason game" app st. is."

And ask yourself this. Why is Appy State on our sechedule? What do we have to gain by playing them? What do we have to lose?

"2. Lets say we cancel the game, and like you said, no big deal, we have two more "preseason games left before Auburn." If the hurrican hits us tuesday, do you think there is a decent chance our game next saturday is cancelled? Leaving us with 1 game before Auburn?"

That's a big if at this point. But yes, only playing one game before Auburn would suck.

"3. We will play App St., if not this week, then later in the season, the game won't be "cancelled", just postponed, so the SOS argument is moot."

I'm not so sure that this game wouldn't be scrapped altogether.

I love LSU football, but this is a weak opponent and we don't stand to gain anything from playing.

Don't blow this game out of context. It's a fricking jamboree. Nothing more.

Oh come on. Seriously- so you think we'll be far behind Georgia after they tackle heavyweight Georgia Southern?

Not sure if anyone here knows this but Troy runs the same offense that Auburn runs. Auburns new OC, Tony Franklin, was at Troy the past two years. Troy promoted from within and is still running the same offense (with a few little tweeks) under Franklins protege, Neal Brown.

Wish I could be there this time (was there in 2004) but a 15 month old and a 2 month old don't give you much time.

First of all, my most SINCERE thanks to all of you Tiger fans who have shown respect and knowledge of the Appalachian program (yes, we are Division 1). It really is an amazing testament to LSU's resolve to be willing to play ASU after what happened last year. I would be pissed if this game got cancelled, after looking forward to it for so long.

For those of you that haven't shown ASU respect, I guess we'll see what happens after we give you a run for your money this weekend.

To comment on the recurrent theme of this thread:
My guess is that Dignan really, REALLY wants this game to be cancelled because he understands that while LSU has been a great football team with a rich tradition of excellence - they haven't proven a damn thing yet this year.

1. No starting QB yet (Hatch transferred from a FCS team much worse than ours).

2. Your best options at RB and receiver (while highly talented) have had seriously limited playing time due to the quality of the graduating class last year. It their 1st real starting experience.

3. You just might not be the football gods Dignan thinks you are down in BR (even though you probably do have the best and most team-loyal recruiting grounds in the entire country).

It's ok to be afraid, Dignan.

I just can't understand how you can grasp the depth and essence of these serious concerns and you still refuse to believe that ASU is a Division 1 team. In fact, we used to play Troy just about every other year or so - and we'd wipe the floor with them both home and away. Hopefully you can do the same.

If ASU comes in and is competetive (which they will be) all I can hope is that that we get the respect we deserve.

Seriously, it's Appy State and there is nothing to gain from playing this game. If anyone gets injured while playing a D2 opponent, it would be a shame.

Sure, I want to see what Hatch is capable of, but other than that, this game is not intriguing...

I disagree. The more we give these first year starters playing time against lesser opponents the more they will settle in their position.
