He played the option like a man for about 2 games...thats about it

The Cotton Bowl was his best performance, according to some,he threw for 150 yds.Thinkabout that for a sec.

In the cotton bowl he completed 10 out of 19 passes as well, just barely 50%.

quote:LMFAO!!!!!! He did play most of the year(thank God). We won most of the time in spite of him not because of him. Everyone knows Les should have yanked him after the shouvel pass to Ware and then JJ he goes over and b**ches out Ware. Give me break.
Well at least for him anyway. It seemed like he worked hard in the off season after a relatively strong finish last year (read Bama, Ole Miss, A&M games). The suspension seemed to make him even better. When he came in relief for Lee up to and through the Bama game, JJ played his role quite well. He had no turnovers to my knowledge until the Arky game, ran the option and read's better than he ever has, and threw the ball relatively well. I think he felt like he had something to prove. When Lee and JJ were both playing for those ~4 games, LSU was at its very best imo. JJ was never a liability, but a huge asset to the offense.
Unfortunately, the benching of Lee brought out the worst in JJ imo. He no longer played with a chip on his shoulder and got progressively worse as the season went on. He (and the offense) reverted back to the Crowton offense. It al culminated with whatever that NC game was. Was it just me, or was he pitching the ball on the option with the defender 3 yards away?
The worst thing is that Lee and JJ together at their best may have been a great QB for this team (and for a while they were). I am as pro-Miles as they get, but will never understand why we abandoned a system that worked beautifully from Kentucky through Auburn (40+ ppg), to become one-dimensional. I, like most Tiger fans, are happy the Lee/JJ saga is over.

Threads like this won't let me forget about JJ.

quote:that is why miles should have kept the rotation the same after the 1st bama game. lee starts, & jefferson comes off the bench for certain situations.
He looked good imo Kentucky through Auburn, looked okay Bama through Arkansas, and looked like 2009 JJ against UGA and Bama. But again, I think it was relief role where he excelled

JJ will haunt my dreams for many years. Miles tends to be a little slow on things. Crowton shouldve been fired a years earlier and the malveto crissis should have never happened.
Once lee started looking over his shoulder, he was done. And once JJ became the starter, he quit putting in the effort. I remember when JJ came back, he look stronger and faster. when i saw him in the bcscg he looked soft and slow. OUt of shape and seemed mentally unprepared.
I don't know how this happens for the biggest game of youre like.

No leadership and at best a flip of the coin performer

Might be because in JJ-land he thinks he had a good game in New Orleans. Why work hard when your HC isn't going to pull you no matter how bad you crap the bed? It's called Swag, and if you got it you don't need nuttin else.

JJ struggles when he is forced to throw from the pocket and he is inconsistent as a passer. He goes through serious swings of inconsistency.

I think you mean 2010 JJ. the 2009 version had a number of 200 yd and multi TD passing games.

bah, he had a bunch of sacks (a lot on him, some on our worst OL in recent memory), but I'd gladly have taken that JJ over the one we saw these past few games. that one at least tended to make some plays over the course of a game.

I don't know if it's quite that simple ... the 2 games we struggled the most offensively were against UGA and Bama. Both teams run an agressive, pressure-happy 3-4. Really those 2 teams were by far the best 2 defenses we played. They were the perfect defenses to counter our offense--take away the run and force the pass. With Lee's struggles under pressure, I'm not sure the result would've been any different, and likely would've been worse. And what get's lost in the QB debates is the performance of the rest of the team--our OL struggled big time in the first half against UGA and the entire game against Bama.
That said, I too am glad that the Lee/JJ saga is over.

Jefferson is the worst starting QB at LSU since 1960--the only QB failing to improve from freshman to senior years. LSU's offense was never the same once he became the starter, and as a result LSU was never as good in the late stages of 2011 as it was at the start and mid-season.
The real problem is that we still haven't recovered from the Ryan Perilloux debacle. We had only two 1st year QBs to take over and those two are now graduating. Neither should've had to be thrown in to big games at that early stage, and that it affected their careers is obvious. This is really Miles's failing. Russell Shepherd should have been an answer, but somehow he was not brought into the QB situation. That I will never understand.

He didn't play most of the year...

quote:Are you kidding me, look at the first 7 games and the productivity of the offense (without Jefferson). If Jefferson never played a down in 2011, would Mett have played a significant number of snaps to help us win games even the Nov 5th game and possibly the NC game. I guess we will never know.
When Lee and JJ were both playing for those ~4 games, LSU was at its very best imo.

While watching the game, I too, was yelling at Jefferson's poor play. I too, was pleading with no one in particular to put in Lee. I mean, how could Lee play much worse, right? Then I remembered the first game vs Bama. I recalled the "deer in the headlights" look that Lee had. I remembered the, not one but two, horrible passes by Lee that were intercepted. I remembered how JJ came in to win the game. The emotional side of me says Lee should have played (sr season, hard work, leading team to best record in first half of season). The logical side says the result would have been no different. Do we know that for sure? No. Is there an explanation that can satisfy? No. Miles gave his "explanation"- best chance to win. Either you believe it or not. There were many seniors who worked just as hard and stuck with the program for 4 or 5 years and they also did not get on the field for the NC game.
The end of the saga is welcomed!

I remember Lee starting off 3 of 5 then throwing a 20 yard interception on 3rd and 8. I remember the Bama defender making a diving catch. The pass looked like Lee thought the receiver would come back. Instead the receiver went long.
Then I remember the most efficient qb in the SEC getting benched for half the game for throwing his 2nd interception on season against arguably the second best defense in the country.
I do not remember a "deer in headlights" look from Lee against Alabama. I do clearly remember JJ's look last Monday.
