Somebody call the WAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHmbulance cause ESPN is picking on the Tigers. Give me a break. Quit your bitching. We are the undisputed kings of the BCS football era. We have been on national TV non-stop over the past few years. Have proven that our program is so strong that it didn't even miss a beat when a top notch coach left us high and dry (on Christmas eve at that). Have been getting better and better recruits with each passing year. And you people find the need to cry about ESPN not liking us or being biased?!!?!? Give me a @#%$ing break. The only thing worst than a sore loser is a whinny winner. IMO there is a directly proportional correlation between our success and the hatred/bias against us. So I say hate away mutha@#$%ers cause we are gonna keep on winning!!!!!!

meh. there is no bias, but i can see how some people might think that about them.
it does seem like we are left out of certain conversations or not spoken about the same way that they speak about other teams.
but mainly espn is just trying to make money and they do this by promoting the large markets.

I don't think that ESPN gave the BCS championship game its rightful coverage. When compared to the NCAA MBB championship and previous BCS championships, it was hardly noticed. When it was brought up, it was with the context of "we need a playoff".
I don't think this was personal against LSU, but IMO ESPN intentionally didn't talk much about the BCS championship in order to downplay it. Would they have covered it more if it were USC and Ohio state? It is possible.

ESPN has been biased against LSU for many years and for obvious reasons. We are a team from a small market that has not historic national appeal to audiences. We do not represent a top major metropolitan area, we are not in a high-market interest demographic zone, and we have not historically had a strong nationwide following. And when our program began to rise to match or exceed the level of other programs that had those advantages (SC, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Bama, etc.), ESPN (like basically all major media sources) gave more attention and coverage to the teams that had more national audience appeal. That wasn't us, so the bias was against us (among others). To add to that natural bias was the other natural bias of ESPN being owned by a company whose networks did not have the major contracts with our conference but did have the major networks with some of our most notable competitors for national attention (namely, of course, Southern Cal).
There is a difference in bias(because of ratings) and hatred, which is what many posters on this site have claimed(ESPN "hatred" for LSU) that he was alluding to. Knowing your contrarian nature, I wouldn't be surprised if you make a post spinning and spinning that there isn't a difference.
I have no reason to believe that anyone involved with ESPN/ABC among the executives, commentators, analysts, janitors and statisticians, cameramen, etc. has/have a special "hatred" for LSU that they don't have for anyone else to say their corporation(s) "hate" Louisiana State University, it's officials, it's coaches, it's players, or it's fans. Bias may or may not be a different story, even if it is, it isn't something to be worrying about. There is no productive result from and point in that.

Of course it is, what is ESPN supposed to be performing some kind of public service? ESPN, like CNN, Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC is in the entertainment business to make money. They don't owe LSU, or any team for that matter anything.
I do think a media bias exists, but it's more that it favors certain team (USC ND) in particular. If ESPN "hates" LSU, they would not put them on TV the 5 or so times they were last year. Do they like USC better, sure they do, but hate LSU is ridiculous.
Pretend you are a West Virginia, Iowa, Washington State, Kansas State or Missouri; BCS programs that have had decent success over the last few years, do you think they are complaining about ESPN hates them? No, they thank their lucky stars they get on national TV twice a year. The bottom line is if this is what we as LSU fans have to complain about, life is pretty damn good.

ESPN is not the LSU network. There will always be LSU fans on here who won't be pleased with the coverage and praise LSU gets from ESPN and their analysts so it's really not an issue. But, from some of the comments over the past few years on here, it seems as if some LSU fans think ESPN has some against them specifically. I don't agree with that.
If they have read message boards of other teams(such as on the Rivals and Scout networks), they will notice and realize that there are other fans of other teams who feel the same away about ESPN's relationship with their school, even the UT, OU's, UF's, UGA's, Tennessee's,etc. fans.

Bitching about networks placing ratings and profits ahead of geeky feelings is, well, geeky.
When you outgrow your geekdom, it won't matter anymore.

I think the one weakness in KJ's argument is that ESPN does have a contract with the SEC and even though they don't get first choice each week, the SEC is a BIG part of their college football coverage...so if it is all about making money, why would they downplay the SEC for any reason?
The bottom line is ESPN pundits do give USC too much credit and in some cases too much pub, but that doesn't mean they hate LSU.
ESPN always broadcasted at least one of our home games even back when we sucked, and they are always talking about what a great atmosphere it is to play in Tiger Stadium and how awesome the fans are... How does that fit into their hatred/bias?

Not many on here can read through much of anything...everything's black and white to them. Just like they are stuck on the "ESPN hates us" bullcrap. The argument is not that they hate us, it's that they suck as a sports network with poor reporting, poor commentary, and the hiring of laughable buffoons as sports anchors to try to get their ratings up.
If ESPN sucks as a sports network who is good???
They have been putting LSU on TV more than any other team it seems like. There will always be yankees on there hating on LSU but I love it when they have to come on after the game and look like a douche. Taking care of business on the field shuts everyone up!!!!!!! At least they are putting us on the tube.

As soon as Brad and Angelina stop being interesting to people, we'll stop hearing about them, too.
Since they have a house in New Orleans, maybe we can talk them into coming to Tiger Stadium for a few home games. Then we can be on E! and ESPN at the same time. Yippeee!
I see LSU on TV all the time. Almost every game was televised last year, and I expect that we will have almost as many on TV this year as well. All I care about are the W's. 13-1 and LSU vs. USC in the title. LSU will knock off one more "powerhouse" program to add to the list. Maybe that's a little optimistic, but after last year...anything is possible.

I am pissed. The Mad Hatter was supposed to be on College Gameday Live yesterday and they put Petey from USC instead.
ESPN hates LSU.

It is not to help our recruiting or popularity. It's just the opposite.
The opposite? So they are playing our game on their network to hurt our recruiting and popularity? Not so much. They are a sports network and they have 1 agenda. It's not to help LSU, its not to hurt LSU.
ESPN WANTS TO MAKE MONEY! Thats the bottom line. Of course people are going to watch this game more then they would any other game between an SEC school and a FCS school. It just makes good sense. They aren't doing it to help LSU but on the other hand they aren't doing it to hurt LSU.

Apparently it works. Do they put people like Skip Bayless, Steven A. Smith, Jemele Hill, and Jim Rome on the air to make outlandish statements and say things that most logical people don't believe. But the bottom line is, people watch, and their ratings have to be going up from it, otherwise they would take them off of the air.
That being said, they have been pretty fair to LSU. shite, they picked up LSU vs. Tulane last year(even if it was at a crappy time). Bias? Of course. But its not a bias against LSU as an institution, its a bias for money.
Hatred? NO!

LSU gets a lot of respect around the nation. We've earned that by winning 3 SEC championships, 2 BCSNC's, and being ranked 5-3-1 over the last few years. In addition we played 4 of the best televised games of the season last year, in prime time. But for schmoozers like ESPN we're last years story.
They have to hype the big markets and get everyone agitated. GA, always #1 USC, OSU, Texas-OU etc.
Don't take it seriously. To show what they're about I saw one pundit pick LSU-Alabama as one of the must watch games of the year. That's OK but he didn't pick LSU-GA, LSU-Fla, or LSU-AU. Why? Because Nick Saban is coming back to BR! It's a better narrative for the hypemeisters. And they say we're "obsessed" with Saban. We should just give him a hand when he runs on the field and end that "narrative' for good. That's all the media is interested in.
Let us keep going thru the season winning with a Mormon from Harvard at QB, LM giving interviews to sport babes on the sidelines, and Crowton lining them up in some 1920's formation he saw at on film at the library and we'll get as much exposure as anyone in the country, just like last year. Every time there's a fourth down for LSU in a big game they'll cut away to coverage of Les on the sidelines.
The season starts with the "narrative" but it ends with who's winning. We keep that up and there's no complaints.
