I am far from a Les fan, but that game was a joke. The field made the game a coin toss and nullified the effectiveness of both teams. yes they made the plays and thus won the game.
As much as I dislike Les, he record when he has time to prepare is absolutely top notch.
thank you!

Yes, because saying you will blow up the line on every play isn't too cocky.
Armstrong is our strongest lineman. Carson York (22 starts) has practiced at center enough that if our coaching staff thought that Armstrong wasn't our best opton, we'd move York there and let Cody, Golpashin, and Clanton vye for the 2 guard spots (a more than capable rotation).
Armstrong has been in the system for two full seasons and he is guy that I've been waiting for since he was recruited. Will he get beat? Sure. However, the cocky statement is that he will get blow up on EVERY play.

How deep is Oregon's O-Line? I thought you guys were having depth problems there. Against our D-Line, that is not a good thing.

We rotated 8 players last year and 5/8 are returning. Most are saying we are replacing 3/5 starters and those were Holmes, Thran and Kaiser. None of those guys sniffed the NFL and the '08 group put in 3 guys (Unger, Tupou and Lewis). We had a down crop the last two years, imho.
Our returning starts are Asper (OT 24 starts), York (22 starts OG), and Weems (OT 7 starts last year and 1 start in '09). Cody (OG) had a start in '09 and was really starting to be the key replacement instead of Weems but then had a nagging injury last year. Armstrong and Grasu are competing for the center spot. People laugh that Armstrong is listed by the AD at 260 but every other site has him at 285 and that was his weight out of high school. Both of the centers are highly regarded kids and York has enough snaps at center that he would be given the nod considering we have 3 guards with meaningful snaps. Golpashin is a fith year senior walk on that will get a schollie this year. He was the 8th man in the rotation (guard).
We have scholarship guys in Benyard (326 pounds OT), Tevor Fox (OG 280), and Clanton (OG 305). These will be our depth and the former two will be sophmores. Clanton was a JUCO kid that redshirted last season, highly regarded, and looks like he will be able to contribute now. Benyard will fill in too (I don't believe the 326 listing he is more like 340). Fox is the least likely to conribute. Mana Grieg is a walk on that looks like he could be in the mix as well.
All in all, there are the bodies and the talent, it's just finding the right formula. I will be concerned if by mid camp they are not gelling.

It'll be interesting to see how our defense matches up with the Oregon's speedy offense.
What does Oregon's defense look like?

I think that has some credibility. It seems like when opponents can penetrate enough to hinder the option execution the Oregon offense gets slowed down a bit.
The variable is that given the propensity for big plays (8-15 yards) the offense really can get blown up on one or two plays and still get first downs. This is different than lots of traditonal pro style offenses. For the Ducks third and 10 will still be a running play if they choose. This makes it difficult for defenses that like to change coverage based on down and yardage. That plus, the no offensive substitutions, means no defensive substitutions. So the defense is stuck with what they have on the field.

I am feeling really good about the dline and the secondary is one of the best in CFB. Boyett and Harris combined for 5 & 6 picks and everyone has starts in the last two years. Boyett will be a third year starter as a junior, Pleasant a third year starter (1st year at SAM and 2nd at Rover), Harris will be a preseason all american and Gildon started the Rose Bowl and 8 games last year.
The linebacking corp will be highly athletic and has 4 guys with good experience (1 starter, 3 key reserves). Clay pushed Matthews for playing time and that says a lot. Losing Alonso for the LSU game is going to hurt but Clay backed up the Mike so he will slide over and Kaddu and Lokombo should play next to him. We got four incoming frosh and we've had a true frosh make an impact in this unit the last two year. I'd expect Wallace, the most natural ILB by many to come in and compete along with a guy name Hardick that is apparently already 235 pounds and ready made. There are several in this unit that are coming off a redshirt that made waves in spring. Definitely a new breed of athlete for us.
The sentiment around the dline is the highest that I can remember. Ricky Heimuli and Dion Jordan are poised for breakout impact season (NT and boundary side end). The other starters Turner (starter from last year) and Wade Keliikipi (most tackles on defense by a backup) are upgrades from last year. Remington, Ebart, Hanna, and Washington should fill out a very good rotation.
Rank them: Secondary, Dline and LB. The latter lost 2/3 starters and we lost Alonso, our penciled in MIKE for the LSU game.

This should be an interesting match up.

The tempo is what concerns me. Texas A&M ran an up-tempo offense and it had us on our heels most of the game. What saved us was our offense moving the chains and some turnovers.
And Chavis had a long time to prepare for A&M, like he will for Oregon. Hope he learned some lessons.

Holding AU to 22 (even with 500+ yds of offense) last year was no small feat.
The game all hinges on Jefferson. If he can deliver on the small bit of hype he has gotten from Miles, etc., in the spring, we will be alright. If he sucks like most of his career, we are fricked.

I love the chief but UT fans warned us. He gives me the same defensive heart attacks that Les delivers on offense.
You can say what you want about LSU football but it's always exciting, even against teams like Vandy & McNeese.

Yes, I'm still celebrating our Capital One victory against Penn State.
i actually blame that one more on the field conditions and the officials in the last two minutes....

LSU went through this same thing. Took two years for the line to come together. We only replace one next season with a whole slew of talent at tackle. Good luck.

I'll say the same thing I said about Oregon playing Auburn. They are really going to struggle against a top caliber SEC DLine. I am not as worried about gameplan as I am about conditioning and rotation.

Correct me' if I'm wrong, but during the spring game didn't they show our Defense was best in the sec on 3rd and long last year? Wouldn't that put doubt in the 3rd and Chavis theory?

LSU #16 in Nation defending on 3rd down.

No because poeple can still remember one time where we gave up a 1st on 3rd and long. Selective memory is all that matters to most Tiger fans.

I am cautiously optimistic about the Oregon game. What concerns me is that we did not do a good job against Ole Miss or Auburn last year. At times, it seemed as if our defense didn't know who had the ball in those games. Yes, we manhandled Florida; but let's be honest, Brantley sucked as a spread option quarterback. Oregon returns a proficient quarterback. Hopefully, Chavis can figure out something.

I would do exactly what auburn did to them. Except we have some advantages: 1. Theyre young in the trenches. 2. Were more experienced at every position and have some heavy backup for the few we had to replace.
