re: Is JL staying at LSU?

quote:Do you honestly believe that NFL scouts will be evaluating Lee 3 years from now based on his performance as a freshman last year? I'm no scout, either, but I'm pretty confident in believing that they will evaluate him based on how he plays at the time he leaves college, not how he played 3 years earlier as a freshman. I don't recall a bunch of NFL scouts rating JaMarcus Russell or Matt Ryan in their drafts based on their freshman seasons.
but what do you think a NFL scout would say about JL 3 years from now? "big frame, quick release, big arm, makes terrible decisions trying to squeeze the ball into triple coverage"

That is a good point. But, to add to it... if he sticks it out and has some redeeming moments... then it's a huge plus. Even if there's no watershed performance, if he sticks it out and develops, which you can do as a backup, it's not a minus and is a plus on character.
Ask Herb Tyler if it pays to stick around LSU as the 4th QB.
That's the mentality we want for our recruits to have, and to what measley little impact there is on the board, if you're on the team, you have a chance to play.

That does not mean they had lost confidence inn him. I believe you are reading this wrong, they probably were scared he would reinjure him self and they did not have to have him. It does not bother me that you like JJ better, what has bothered me is the way you have bashed Lee.
DOnt argue with doc.. when all else fails for this loser, He always has the race card in his back pocket, waiting like a fuking cheeta to pounce on you with it.
Seriously, you are wasting you time with this dude.

What burns me up is for these idiots to get on this board and bash Lee a 19 year old kid who did his best ,in a bad situation.
I understand. Like I said, some of you guys that have been on here for longer than me, have perspectives that I'm still getting a hold of, with regard to the tone of the board.
I don't bash Lee because it shouldn't be personal, he is a kid at LSU, he can improve, we might need him... and so on... who knows?
But, the main bashing I see is when someone says something like I said, which was "Jefferson should have started or played sooner... " and that kind of stuff.
Then, I'm a bonehead, stupid, etc.
It's a fine line and a touchy issue. My lesson learned is not to drag up the past, and although I don't always practice it... preview your message before sending!

I'm not convinced a true freshman was more prepared than Lee was or would have performed any better than Lee did earlier in the year.

Exactly. People forget JR (who was also a redshirt freshman when he started). He didn't throw pick six's, but take out the Iowa 4th quarter and give me some excellent stats on him in '04. My God...remember the Florida game?
Lee can and will improve. He needs to work on confidence and footworrk. His arm and football prowess are there.
We need JL on this team. 2nd string...even 3rd string is fine.
For the idiots who think if JJ gets hurt and RS is ready to play every down...
Now, I am going back to talk basketball.

Theres simply no room for error in college football, JL is an error

So, essentially, the '05 win over Florida when we had 5 turnovers didn't happen? I dreamt it?

There's so many posts saying this and that...I don't know what is sarcastic and what isn't when it comes to JL these days.

Obviously, the coaches, or the coach, felt the same way about J.J. being ready. Whether it was performance on the practice field, or knowledge of the playbook, I certainly don't know anything firsthand. So, I concede your point.
But, here's where it gets touchy... at some point I began to wonder whether it was better for LSU AND J.L., once the bleeding started, to start mixing J.J. in.
Look, coaches were dealt a difficult hand. I don't criticize them. But, learn a lesson if it can be learned.
I think there are many that can be learned from this past year, if I were a coach. I won't elaborate further, hopefully you get my point.

Very rarely are true freshman ready to come in and be lights out performers. JJ is no phenom.
Could JJ have been worked in? Maybe.
This team had a myriad of issues, from defense, to QB, to simply just not being hungry.
We learned, or perhaps realized on new levels what we always knew, which was just how important veteran QB play and strong defense play in success on just about every level of football.
If they can't score, they can't beat you.

and how important it is to have a back up.

We would love to have JL at NSU if he decides to leave LSU. We had great success with the last qb from LSU who came to NSU.
I'll put the new NSU staff up against McNeese's staff any day.

Good God. I forgot how ignorant this board was before I read this thread.
And, because I KNOW some ranter is going to say get out of here greenie, I graduated from LSU.
