re: Is LSU still a playoff contender with Nuss at QB?

Nuss has the tools. Just needs experience. Honestly he needs to fail a few times in tight situations to temper his gunslinger mentality a bit. Don’t want him to lose it completely, just want him to think about a throw for about 5 milliseconds longer.

Honestly IMO I believe you'll get your answer this season. It wouldn't surprise me to see JD miss a game or two due to an injury. He had the ankle injury at the end of last season. I think Nuss is up to the task should JD be out for any length of time.

I think Nuss' performance in the Championship game and Bowl game opened some eyes and brains in the media.
BK, since Spring game 22, always indicated Nuss has the talent, just needs coaching and opportunity.

When Nuss shows us that he won't throw into coverage in the red zone, I'll consider his possibility of him being better than JD. That being said, I think there will come situations in games where Nuss will be more effective than JD. I think this situation came up some last year, but BK didn't trust Nuss not to throw into coverage.

You have to feel really good about this year and next years team to make some noise being in the hunt.

I'm not comparing the two QBS to each other. I'm comparing how the team might perform with either of our QBs, and would the expectations be the same.
Watch the Georgia game and just for fun, notice how soon we scored after Nuss entered the game. Imagine the score was close and he would not be forced to take chances in order to get us back into the game.
I'm not saying that was his attitude, but fact is, if we were going to be competitive we had to be very aggressive.

I'm not concerned at all with Daniels/Nuss at QB but I am concerned with only Rickie Collins being a true freshman behind them. And in 2024 it should obviously be Nuss but who is our solid, consistent #2? Hopefully Collins progresses and he will and by then Hurley will be on campus and we can see what he has.

Should be.
If 1 player flips your program from contender to non contender then you probably were not a contender to begin with.
We don't know who is better but it should not matter at this level of competition.
UCF or some wannabe like that? Sure. Not at LSU. The expectation is to Win.

Our 2024 schedule is insane:
v. USC
Oklahoma
Bama
UCLA
Ole Miss
@ A&M
@ UF
@ Arkansas
But with a 12-team playoff I think that plays to our benefit. there will even be 3-loss teams that get in some years with the expanded playoffs. We’re in for a couple great years in 2023-24.

Yes. You'll get more passing and a lot more yardage in the air but will sacrifice some intangibles with scrambling and some more interceptions.
Daniels has been working on airing it out more, from what i understand. Nuss is working on making better decisions.
Either way, we are in a good position this year, QB wise.

It depends when and under what circumstances he throws he interceptions.

If it is reasonably assumed that Nuss has improved, then yes. We could win it all.

I believe he will be very good this year if we needed him. And better next year

This is bullshite.
I think Nuss is really good but Jayden Daniels proved he is a damn good QB last season.I think he wins the Heisman this year and wins a natty.our offensive line has experience now and the front seven is legit. Both sides of the ball will be exciting.
Confidence in special teams will be back as well.lfg
