Grewe has never been a pitching coach, so what does PM hire him as?

Think the pitching was good in 2009? I think the pitchers are the least of our problems right now.

You should never get thrown out at the plate twice in the same inning. I knew that would cost us.

Choupique19 does not endorse this message.

Rooney made him look good the first few years.

However, I do miss me some Rooney and Godwin. I have always worried about the entire staff since the day they left.

Joe Alleva has to tell Mainieri that Sanchez must be let go, there's no other option.

The bullpen was non-existant all year. We relied on a couple of freshman studs that haven't been hurt by coaching yet.

There is a talent void after our top 5 or so pitchers. But this is college baseball...no one is very deep at pitcher.

And I am not going to sit here and defend Grewe. I just don't think he is the problem.

I'm 50/50 on Grewe. The pitching has been much better this year. Our recruiting has been suspect, of course Grewe went out and signed 3 stud freshman pitchers. But we have zero depth for our postion players and we are forced to play struggling hitters because there is no viable option behind them.

Sanchez on the other hand....

It is not Matty Otts fault that he sucks. I hope Ott stays and graduates with a degree in something. I don't see him being the next Mariano Rivera.

UF, Vandy, Texas, USC go 7-8 deep pitching. We should be right up there with these programs, but we are sliding and sliding fast.

The only people that threw extensive innings this year that had prior exposure to Grewe were Ott and Alsup. Everyone else we relied on was a newcomer. Alsup is the only person who has improved the longer they've been exposed to him.

And another thing, count me in as a big Matty Ott supporter. He has had some rough spells, and it has cost LSU some games, but I'm pulling for the guy every time he gets the ball in his hands. The closer role in baseball takes alot of guts!!!

I believe the players are doing their best.
I feel sorry for Matook, he will prob. be SEC Player of the year, and played on an awful team.
Coach PM is 100% at fault in my opinion.
After last yr. we needed pitchers and yes he got two freshman that are awesome.
However he did not get a first baseman, or any lefthanders. Gausman,McCune, Jacoby Jones, Raph Ryhmes, and possibly Kevin Berry were brought in and have contributed greatly. Jacoby Jones is our next star player, I think.
Anyway the play of some of our players from last year have NOT played well this year. We have had to shuffle players at first base and in the outfield.Tonight Javi getting players thrown out at home turned the momentum over to MSU and we just couldn't over come that. It will be interesting to see what changes PM has coming.
THANK YOU MIKEY FOR GIVING YOUR ALL, YOU ARE THE BEST ALL AROUND PLAYER I HAVE SEEN AT LSU.
YOU WILL BE MISSED BY ALL OF US TIGER FANS.
GOOD LUCK AS YOU MOVE TO THE BIG LEAGUE.....

I'll probably catch all kinds of grief for saying this, but I think both Grewe and Sanchez need to go: and my reasoning goes to the lack of improvement by hitters, base runners, and pitchers. Gausman, McCune, Eades, and Ott eepecially deserve the best pitching coach LSU can hire and Mainieri can find. The first three b/c they are outstanding frehsmen; Ott b/c he is an outstanding talent who has been left to sway in the wind it seems, when he needs lots of help in becoming the Mattie Ott of his freshman year.

We also need to recruit in Louisiana some, but we also need to recruit outside of the state. We can't recruit at 1-A and 2-A schools and expect to find many SEC type players.

And BTW, Alsup twice, in interviews b/f the season this year, credited his summer coach with helping him to become a much better pitcher. He added that Coach G. had helped too, but I got the impression it was more his summer league coach who helped him become the better Ben Alsup.

While Javy certainly blows, Zealot is right -- the assistant baseball coach is merely a recruiting specialist. Nothing more. Do Sanchez and Davis do anything for or against guys like Mahtook? Hell, Mahtook should teach them how to hit and field.

Yes, Sanchez killed rallys, but that happens. McCune wasn't sharp when we needed him; our relief pitching is the absolute pits; the defense screwed up at the worst times. Javy had little to do with that. Ott's the closer. He should be getting it done at all costs -- especially in a game of this magnitude. So, I cannot really put this entire game and this entire disappointment of a season on Sanchez's shoulders.

So the ones who are wearing the uniforms, throwing the balls, catching the balls and swinging the bats bear no responsibility in this "awful" season in which they have a winning record and are not out of the postseason race?

Really? Why do we pay scholly money for these kids if they bear no responsibility for the results on the field?
