Now that we know JR had zero work ethic back in the day, imagine how far LSU could have gone had he tried?

You mean if we had actually utilized our NFL QB and NFL WRs at Auburn or Florida?

the lester fans piling les miles problems on to jr because of failure in the nfl and his clothing choice.

and a real lol at the guy pissed he didn't return his sr season. what luck did this year was extremely risky coming back to play another year vs the pay day. its not like luck needs a pay day though but jr comes from a slightly different back ground so it was clear the best choice was to leave.

If he had stayed another year, he probably would have made nearly the same dollars. But we will never know whether he would have led LSU to a NC as Flynn did. It makes me again wonder whether LSU would have won a NC in 2006 with Flynn instead of Russell. I follow coaches' judgments on things like this, so the answer is probably Flynn would have fared no better.

After Flynn trounced Miami, I knew he was going to be a great one and wanted him to start in 2006. And he is an LSU great one: four touchdowns in his starting year against one of the best defenses in the country, Ohio State.

So why not also JJ, who trounced Georgia Tech and TAMU? Attitude. If he gives up blaming his tools, he has the skills to be better than Flynn. I sure hope he succeeds.

Yeah, JR has some 'splainin to do about the Bama stuff. Still, I hope his classmates treat him with respect.

Many people turn their lives around or succeed beyond their wildest dreams. I have witnessed it first hand on several occasions. So we can't write JR off. Criticize his Bama foolishness, but otherwise encourage him.

What part of this don't you guys understand? In 2006, LSU went 10-2 in the regular season with losses to then Top 5 ranked AU on the road and then Top 5 ranked UF on the road. In 2006, two losses in the SECW was not good enough to make it to Atlanta, thus not good enough to win the SEC title...let alone fall arse backwards into the BCSNCG.

In 2007 LSU went 10-2 in the regular season, and despite losing on the road to Top 20 Kentucky and unranked Arkansas at home, LSU's two losses WAS good enough to make it to Atlanta to play for the SEC title thanks to a weaker SECW, where LSU's back-up QB played for an injured Flynn and led LSU to a win over Tennessee. Then, in a miracle that rivals nearly any on record, PITT upended West Virginia in the Big East Title Game enabling SEVENTH RANKED LSU to jump to #2 and play tOSU for the title.

Now...what exactly did Flynn do that Russell did not do? Was he responsible for a weaker SECW where a 2 loss team (with both loses being to worse teams than the previous year) could have made it in 2007 but not 2006? Was he also QBing the PITT team that beat WVU in the BE title game despite being unable to even lead his own team to the SEC title in Atlanta? In short, crediting Matt Flynn with the title and using it to suggest he was a better QB than Russell is like crediting Early Doucet with the title and suggesting he was better than Bowe because while the #1 receiver LSU won the NC.

This argument is so beyond stupid. Not because I don't understand that some people feel the need to fan boy up to particular players...but because there is literally no rational defense for this line of thinking other than "he has the hardware," as if that makes any difference at all as I've shown with the Doucet/Bowe comparison.

What the Flynn "supporters" fail to realize that continuing this only diminishes Flynn's 5th year successes and ultimate legacy at LSU by trying to make it larger than it was. From all accounts, Flynn was a good guy, a solid team mate and when he got his chance he made the most of it and was fortunate enough to be on a team where despite 2 losses they remained in the hunt for titles. That's plenty...

I loved watching JR play at LSU, but he is a disgrace now. Regardless of whether or not his failures were in the NFL or college, he was an ambassador for LSU and turned into a worthless turd. Sure he won us some games, but he has the same mind and sense of responsibility as a child. I don't hate him, but I certainly don't give a frick about him either.

That's only part of the argument. The other part really is to his benefit. If he knew he was going to go to the Raiders, which he did, why not wait another year and let a better team come along that would train you and work with your talents? Oakland is a train wreck of an organization and only a fool who wants $$ would hitch their wagon to that piece of shite. A true athlete and competitor who wants to win would not.

Staying for his SR year wouldn't have changed the results in the pros.....He still was the #1 pick in the NFL draft with a 35+ million dollar payday.

Great decision.

Dollar wise, but career wise it was a horrendous decision and we are witnessing it.

He was on mine after I saw him half assing on the field as an LSU Tiger and then taking the money over a potential NC to go play with the freakin' Raiders, which everyone knew was a money grab.
What on earth?

Quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever read on the rant

Not sure anyone on the rant is stupid enough to turn down $68,000,000 but you

maybe JR could revive his career in the pros as an OT ... kinda like how Rick Ankiel went from a pitcher to an outfielder ..
