Look, lets just keep to the basics, and get race and all other BS out of the discussion. Lee has two major problems. One can be taught (maybe), the other can't. He has a great work ethic, is smart enough to run the offense. Until he becomes more mobile, he will not be able to get as good as JJ can. The other is his inability, so far, to visualize the field for open receivers without a DB or LB lurking for an interception. Those are his two glaring faults. Maturity will help in most of his other minor deficiencies, but those two will haunt him. Remember, he was coached by his father, so he has had a lot of time to discover and work on these problems.

I apprecaite your response, but one thing I disagree with
Ive read the point on here several times and I agree with it... we dont need a qb that can win games by themsleves.... we have a stockpile of skilled athletes that can run fast, jump high, and make people miss.... the job of a good qb is to deliver the ball (which JL can)
run the plays (which JL can)
be a leader on offense/command the huddle (which JL can)
and limit the to's (which JL sturggled at times with)....
However as stated earlier by me and you that is CORRECTABLE.
Im not saying nor have I ever said JL deserves the start over JJ going into fall camp... what I am saying is to think JL Is uncapeable of leading this team again if is number is called is dumb.. and there are those on this board that actually believe that.

Matthew Stafford's freshman numbers:
He struggled in his first year, completing 126 of 235 passes (53.6%) for 1,620 yards. He put up six passing touchdowns, 3 rushing touchdowns and 12 interceptions heading into the 2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl, where Stafford and the Bulldogs made a 18-point comeback, the largest for Georgia under coach Mark Richt up to that point. He finished the game 9/21 passing,129 yards, 1 TD and 1 Int. He was the recipient of the Dr. and Mrs. Howard Williams, III, Football Scholarship and named team's Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
Jarret Lee's Freshman numbers:
LSU’s starter at quarterback for eight games in 2008 before an ankle injury against Ole Miss sidelined him for the remainder of the regular season ... Guided the Tigers to a 4-4 mark in those starts, which included a pair of fourth quarter comeback wins against Auburn and Troy ... Played in first 11 games of year before missing final two contests ... Connected on 143 of 269 passes for 1,873 yards and 14 touchdowns ... Also threw 16 interceptions with seven of those being returned for touchdowns ... Ranks second to Tommy Hodson in LSU history for freshman quarterbacks in yards, touchdowns, attempts and completions .

JL will be a much improved QB after last season watch and see, it was baptism under fire for the kid, but now that he knows what the SEC is all about it will be night and day for him. He will be more relaxed in the pocket and everything, last year he was scared to death and rushed a lot of his throws, he was throwin off the wrong foot making his passes sail because he was so nervous, but a year does wonders for some people, as a backup comin in to relieve JJ he should do well. and he will never be a runner for those that say he needs to, he is a prototypical drop back passer.

He doesn't have the arm to make the 12 - 15 yard out from the far hash.

Dude actually has a hose of an arm. That's not his problem. He telegraphs his passes, and throws into coverage. It's that simple

IMO he has the quickest release since Tommy Hodson w/o decision making ability. However, The single thing JJ needed to square was his release time. Go look at the finlm. As most young QB's he is slow (cocks his arm)and heaves. Has a great arm, but needs to and HAS worked on it. I like this competition.

It seems like he would have this year. I'm no expert on this, but LSU's single biggest problem was defense last year otherwise LSU would have the same coaches. If LSU doesn't, improve there whoever starts is going to have a tough year. That is not to mention the O-Line is not likely to improve. Take-off the P&G glasses for a minute. I am HOPING for a 9 win season. We lose to Ol'piss, Bama, Fla for sure. Just a realist.

we'll be happy to take him next year, dude will be completely improved this season, but JJ will make it hard for him to get PT and redeem himself, so he might consider a transfer, if he comes to us he could put up ridiculous numbers with that arm in our system.

It is the truth? Why do all you people get your nuts off to JL. Do i really want him playing over JJ next year? Of course not but a bunch of tards here do for some crazy reason
What anyone with a brain wants is for the qb the coaches say will play to play. The coaches, NOT YOU or anyone else know best sonnyboy.

Why is it that anytime someone defends JL against unfair critisism, the JL bashers automatically make the leap that the poster defending JL wants him to start over JJ?
It is possible to defend JL against the bashers but also be a huge fan of JJ.

There is also JL defenders that bash JJ when the dude has played pretty much perfect as a true freshman.

Defend Jarrett Lee all you want--the simple fact remains that he doesn't fit the hybrid spread option that Crowton runs. Maybe he performs well at Texas Tech, Missouri, Oklahoma, hell, even Alabama. Maybe.
What made Matt Flynn so great was not just his cool-headedness but also that ever-important "option" to run when the passing lanes weren't open. When the passing lanes aren't there for Lee, that's it. He's done. It's sack, throw the ball away, or interception, and yes, as a freshman, a lot of interceptions.
Will the decision-making process for him become clearer as he matures? Yes. Will it really matter? Not here, not when you have someone like Jordan Jefferson who is the ideal spread option quarterback--good arm, good head, great confidence, and the ability to make things happen with his legs either by design or when things break down. A guy like Jefferson can manage the games in ways Lee just can't in this offense. Again, I emphasize, in this offense. Lee could make a capable backup here, but ultimately that's about all he probably has in store for him.

What the hell does THAT mean, sonnyboy?
I am not "justifying" a damn thing. I am merely stating facts. If you choose to be stupid and ignore them, then by all means, be yourself.
Littleman, I am not the stupid one.....but, by all means, keep typing.

+ 1, finally someone hits the nail on the head, or the side of the barn (something JL could never do with a football). It's not that the true fan base wants to put down so called JL, it's just that they get tired of his 'fan base' diminisioning the accomplishments of JJ. Why can't these , so called fans, admit after seeing with their own eyes that JJ performed impecably in his second start as a true freshman in a very important and high pressure game after watching a season of JL faltering in similar circustances and showing no sign of improvement even with being,a second year in the system, redshirt freshman. I am a big fan of JL and hope he improves his game in his years here at LSU.

So, let me get this straight. I am "off meds" to want the coaches to decide who the starters are and not some zero from the rant.
Yea, right.
