I don't know what Ferentz would have done at LSU.

no one does, but given the talent we had and the records he had at Iowa, I see no reason to think it would be worse. Put another way, because he was 6-7 in 2006 Iowa does not mean he would have gone 6-7 in 2006 at LSU.

he had a program going in the right direction and then it went south

They had 3 mediocre years 7-5, 6-7, 6-6 after 3 strait 10 win seasons. In 6 years at MSU Saban won more that 7 games once and 10 games zero times. Last year they won 9 games, looks like a good bet to get that again this year.

And BTW, at perhaps an equal school (OSU), Miles never had a 10 win season.

well there you go, its highly unusual for fans to want to get rid of a coach, that proves he is terrible, fans are always right on these things.

I guarantee they will lose to a lesser opponent

I have asked this question many times and have never gotten an answer, but can some one name a good coach that hasn't lost to a "lesser" team? Didn't Florida lose to less team in both NC seasons?

Look at his record over the last 4 years and you will see why they want to get rid of Kirk. They have consistently under performed. Obviously, you have not followed them as closely as I have or you would know that a majority of their fans have been on the warpath for his head. He signs a lot of talent from Texas and he normally has Top 20 recruiting classes, yet he continues to lose to much lesser opponents (not a valid example to use Ole Miss vs. Fla). I'm talking 20 point underdog opponents. Go look at his losses over the last 4 years and you will understand. 2008 losses - Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Mich State, Illinois; 2007 losses Iowa St, Wisconsin, Indiana, Penn St, Purdue, Western Michigan; 2006 losses Ohio St, Indiana, Michigan, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas; 2005 losses - Iowa State, Ohio State, Michigan, Northwestern and Florida. I could go on, but why? His record against instate rival - Iowa State 2 losses out of the last 5 years, which would be the equivalent to us to losing to Tulane twice. Iowa State is horrible. Also, the "powerhouse" Indiana beat him 2 out of the last 3 years. We don't want this coach and it is a giant insult to Coach Miles to even think that we would.

ferentz doesnt recruit very well, yea iowa isnt in a great area to do so but hayden fry won consistently when he was there and got good talent from texas so its possible to recruit there.i personally think he is overrpaid and underachieves, he is solid, has well coached teams. he also has lots of discipline problems. i think he could do well at LSU because it recruits itself now, but i doubt he leaves iowa for any gig, he can be mediocre and makes a lot of money doing so

LOL, I imagine Iowa without Kirk Ferentz. He's the only thing keeping that program competitive.

I have: 7-5, 6-7, 6-6, 9-4. The 3 before that were 11-2, 10-3, 10-2. I suspect had he left after 2004 (10-2, Co- Big 10 champ, top 10 finish, bowl win) they would have not been happy to see him go.

That means nothing to me in evaluating him as a coach. Fans, by and large are not good judges of coaches. After any loss there are fans that want to fire the coach.

I see 1 top 20 class since 2005 and only a handful of Texas players, nothing near what Frey used to sign.

2008 losses - Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Mich State, Illinois;
17-22 to 9-4 NW, 20-21 at 9-4 Pitt, 13-16 at 9-4 MSU, 24-27 at 5-7 Ill. So 3 loses to teams that finished with the same record as them all by less than a TD 2 of 3 on the road and a road loss to a 5-7 team by 3 on the road. What's the problem there?

2005-2007 were bad years, I only see a couple of loses as a DD fav.

I could go on, but why?

Because that would bring us to 2002-2004 were loses were scarce and they won 2 Big 10 titles(02,04) 02 loses: Iowa State, USC 03: MSU, tOSU, Purdue (beat UF in bowl) 04: Az St, Mich (beat LSU in bowl).

which would be the equivalent to us to losing to Tulane twice. Iowa State is horrible

ISU was horrible the last 3 years, but they are in a BCS conference. Losing to a bad BCS team is no where near as bad as losing to a bad CUSA team and LSU is a much better program than Iowa.

3 years prior to LSU hiring Les Miles Ferentz records were: 11-2, 10-3, 10-2. By contrast Les Miles 8-5, 9-4, 7-5. What would Miles record have been had he stayed at Ok St? Not what it was at LSU.

Its a different world now. In the 80's and early 90's when Frey took Iowa to a few Rose Bowls, tOSU was down and Penn State was not in the Big 10 yet. With the exception of Indiana, the bottom feeders in the Big10/11 have had their moments in the last 20 years. They last went to the Rose Bowl in 1990 (they were 8-4) Frey coached for another 8-9 years after that.

As for recruiting Frey had personal connections in Texas and lets just say it was not always a squeaky clean program (cough Ronnie Harmon cough).

If he underachieves, what exactly do you expect out of Iowa? He has been better the last 8 years than Frey's last 8.
