re: Les can't win without Saban's Players

SouthEndZone Tiger, I wasn't implying that the Okie St. program is improved over what it was when Les was there. Les left it in vastly better shape than when Simmons was there. Gundy has recruited well and has at least kept it on a level slightly lower than when Les left.
When Gundy took the program over, he ran off a lot of the players that Miles had recruited and there was an overall rancor that pervaded the program. Unlike Saban, Les was given virtually no credit for lifting the Okie St. program up out of the destruction Simmons left it in.
Gundy was the man that the Cowboyw wanted all along.
Any credit for any success that Okie ST. will see in football will be given first to Okie St.'s favorite son, Gundy and then to T. Boone Pickens for his massive donations to the athletic program. Les is nothing more to them than a footnote to their history and that is wrong because he did as much, if not more, for Okie St. than Saban did for LSU, considering the programs.

It may be hard to give Gundy much credit unless he does better than Miles. Miles had the winningest record at OSU in more than 30 years. While OSU fans might want to overlook that fact, the record book will stand. I have my doubts that Gundy will be a success at OSU, even with Pickens' money. But I agree that Miles doesn't seem to get the recognition for what he did for OSU in some quarters.

The year we beat them at home (& later in the SEC Champ game) this male Georgia fan behind me, actually broke down in tears in Tiger Stadium...geez, what manly men! We got to the SEC Champ game & the Ga. fans were yelling "You're not in Baton Rouge anymore, you're going down!" We didn't. They're crybabies...& they have an overblown opinion of their coach.

Did you ask him if he thought there were still enough Saban recruits on the team for us to have another successful year?

What players did saban sign that wouldn't have come to LSU unless he was the coach?? Let's have a name! How do they know that the recruits that did sign (I concede there may be a couple just like any other program) just because saban was coach were a big part of the team?
Going out on a limb here, but probably blue chip out-of-state prospects like JR, Bowe, Joseph Addai and others who had no previous connection to Louisiana or the LSU football program. Also, players like Michael Clayton who talked about not leaning toward LSU until attending the Tennessee game of 2000, his senior year in high school, and whose relatives were encouraging him to go elsewhere.
The Saban era saw LSU drastically increase the amount of highly touted recruits sign, that we had no chance of signing under Gerry DiNardo and his predecessors. To think otherwise is absurd.

Why is it that Les won with Saban's players but Urban DIDN'T win with Zooks?
Who says he didn't? Even Urban gave Zook credit after winning the title.

Bottomline is there is no win to this argument. People are going to go into it either because they don't care for LSU, therefore not willing to use reason - or they are going to want to use reason because they like LSU.
