Chancellor didn't have to extend it. Had cause in both years to not do it.
2008 - team only had 7 regular season wins. Contract is vague to this point. LSU could certainly interpret it to mean regular season. No rollover per the contract...no action need be taken.
2009 - 8 wins triggers presumptive rollover. Chancellor decides based on recruiting violation severe enough to require termination of a position coach as cause to not rollover.
The only issue would be whether or not there would have to be a public record of that sort of thing in 2009.

Arky fans can somehow get their hands on 1000 txt messages between Houston Nutt and some whore, yet we can't get an exact read on our head coach's contract?

like i said above, he MUST look for another job if he were to get terminated. when he finds a job LSU pay's the difference in what he is owed and what he's making at his new job. if ron zook can get hired @ $1.5 per year at a school like illinois, i'm sure les can do the same. that would put his buyout at $400,00 per year.
According to most on here he wouldn't be qualified to coach the USLSU Mud Dogs (or whatever the water boy’s team's name was) and his reputation is being so maligned by our own fan base that the likely hood of his immediately finding a top tier job is somewhat questionable so the 'difference' could be a lot!

You can say that again!
Oh, wait. You already did.....

I think this would be an excellent question for next Wednesday night.

Hahahaha, I see you've never negotiated or disputed a contract of any sort...

Show me specifically where this is located. Quote the contract language that desribes what you are claiming.
The actual contract is linked in this thread as well and that is not what the contract says.
LINK
There is no "evidence" in that thread of an extension to 2014. Sean O'Keefe can not send a letter to extend the contract. A formally signed contract amandment by both parties is required as stated in the original contract Item #17 on page 19 of 21
"17. Amendments to Contract. Tthis contract may be amended at any time only by a written instrument duly approved by the UNIVERSITY through its designated representatives and accepted by COACH ,such approval and acceptance to be acknowledged in writing."

I don't see how this is hard to comprehend

florida fans said the exact same thing about zook. the fact is, he can flat out recruit and he has a national championship, bcs bowl, great overall record at LSU ect on his resume.he would get a job at a bcs conference school. if LSU wants him gone, the contract won't matter.
Posted on 10/8/10 at 10:07 pm to Brendoni
No one in a bcs conference would hire miles after lsu

You evidently didn't read the contract, it IN THE CONTRACT.
AMMENDMENT NOT NEEDED, LETTER FROM O'Keefe NOT NEEDED.
If they Disallowed the contractual performance based extensions then there WOULD be PUBLIC RECORD OF THAT.
All the other crap is speculation.

Never said I had.
Was merely giving possibilities. There is a reason the contract includes language giving the school the ability to deny a rollover even with the required number of wins. I would think issues of cause would be included in these reasons. I will grant you that it may be unlikely that this happened...I would think that if they denied a rollover for such a thing it would be something written down somewhere. Again I am merely refuting the whole "he has 8 wins so it had to be rolled over" thing. It certainly COULD have been denied under the rules set out by the contract that has been posted.
As to 2008... again I am giving possibilities. I think it is certainly possible that LSU interprets the contract to mean regular season wins. To be honest I think any other interpretation wouldn't even make since from their point of view since he could otherwise go 7-5 with a win in the Independance bowl and get an extension every year.
...didn't realize I had to have a law degree to post here.
