The bottom fell out in 1989. TEN YEARS after Mac was gone. Are you seriously suggesting that letting Mac go caused a downfall TEN YEARS LATER? I know you're not that stupid because nobody is. If not, then why would you make such an idiotic claim?

We didn't have a solid coach after Cholly Mac til Saban (excluding Arnsbargers couple of years). Insulting me just makes you look even more desperate.

My gawd...who in your opinion is elite?

When is this mentality of mediocrity EVER going to die at LSU?

when are fans calling for a coach's head who's not Saban or Meyer EVER going to die?

UF played one of their worst games of the year and still won by double digits. you said bring their best game. they didn't, neither did OM when they let LSU out to two quick TDs in the first qtr and gave LSU a shot at the end to win only to have LSU's HC shite himself.

Really? How bout at least our division? Is that a priority?

BTW, if you are an ELITE team, the objective ABSOLUTELY is the NC.

Apart from recruiting,

Sorry...i refuse to give a simple up or down answer. This is still America..

I think recruiting is 60 - 70 percent of the equation...so im not sure it makes sense to discount it. Especially since some people give all the credit to the talented players for wins and none to coaching.

But to answer the question, one would have to say DOWN since we finished 5th in the nation along with an impressive Bowl win in Miles' first year.

However, I still think losing both RP and Pelini at the same time was very devastating. There was ZERO chance we would have a very successful year.

I also think Crowton is not a long term OC. He seems to be able to fool people for a few years...but then fizzles. He's running out of teams and conferences to fool.

Ill give Miles a few more years to see if he can get LSU back on top. Im only doing this because he continues to bring in SICK SICK SICK talent. Next year's class is going to be NASTY. So im content with giving him a few years...cause even if he fails...a new coach (like a Patterson) would have more than enough talent.

Good luck with that. Might as well do like Xbengal did with my prediction that he'll never beat Florida or Alabama again and put it in your sig line. Of course, like him, you'll quietly get rid of it if I'm proven right, but that's OK. I'd rather be wrong than right about Les Miles. Unfortunately, I'm rarely wrong about a shitty coach.

Les Miles will be fired or forced to resign by LSU before he ever wins another SEC West title or another game against Florida or Alabama. Put that in your sig line and smoke it.

They are really hating on Les...

Means he must be doing something right. It really is hilarious how desperately obsessed with us they are. Obviously, there's a lot of Gumptardation in those posts, so that always adds an extra dose of humor.

If they weren't so laughably pathetic, they'd actually be worth getting pissed off at. In spite of my general distaste for the SEC, there are times when I am glad we're in this conference. The Gumps just make this place more fun than most other places. Could you imagine how boring it would be to have nothing but reasonable folks from places like Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, etc. to deal with? Thank goodness we'll never have to worry about dealing with calm, rational fans of our conference opponents.

Oh, and I especially liked the jackass who said that if Les has another 11 win season or SEC title within the next two years, he'll become a believer. Right. Like these Gumps could ever be convinced of anything. Complete idiots are rarely funnier than when they are making a futile effort to sound reasonable.

LSU will outperform expectations yet again in 2008. You figure that such a trend can't last forever,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Considering how high the expectations have been, it's absolutely amazing that we've met or exceeded them every season. Last year, it was, by definition, as hard as it can get, since the highest expectation that a team can outperform is the expectation of being #2 in the nation. But damned if Les and the Tigers didn't outperform even that one. The last time we underachieved was in 2004.

I predict LSU will outperform expectations yet again in 2008.

I think so, too, if the picks and rankings that define expectations take into consideration the Perrilloux situation. The few that have come out earlier did not consider that, and were probably higher than they would have been otherwise. The later ones, likely to be lower, should form a preseason expectation that is lower than any of the previous three years. I totally agree with you that we are likely to outperform those newer, lower expectations. I'll be very surprised if we start the season in the top 10, but even more surprised if we don't finish there.

Looks like Saban's 32 person recruiting class...

He can certainly sign highly rated classes, but he's not always very good at filling needs. Getting caught with his pants down without a quarterback ready to play in 2004 and leaving us extremely thin and young in the OL for 2005 and 2006 were examples of this.

Saban was unlucky to go 7-6,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disagree.

He was handed the Arkie game on a horrendous call by the officials and injuries to McFadden and Jones on Arkie's crucial last drive to try to run out the clock with a 4-point lead. He barely escaped against Houston, Ole Miss and Colorado, too. He was, frankly, just as lucky not to lose at least two of those games as he was unlucky to lose any game all year.

His losses were all pretty close, but in most of them, his team was outplayed and only managed to stay close because of large inequities in penalties and/or turnovers, especially the LSU game. About the only ones you could validly argue he was unlucky to lose were Mississippi State and ULM.

two out of those five times the refs were the main reason we were stalled, not the Auburn defense.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two?

1) Hester caught the ball on fourth down. Replay ref was a fricking criminal to reverse it.

2) Lafell was mugged in the end zone. Ref was a fricking criminal not to call it.

3) Dyakowski was not holding. Ref was a fricking criminal to call it.

4) Doucet was interfered with. Refs were fricking criminals to wave it off.

The other one was the final one, when we were inside the 5 when time ran out.

What would have been, at a minimum, one touchdown and three field goal attempts (plus a fourth if we needed it) turned into one field goal attempt. The refs did that, not LSU, not Jimbo Fisher, not Jamarcus Russell, not a bad game plan, and certainly not the fricking Auburn defense. It was the criminal refs, period.

I am biased, so my opinion on Miles would not be worth much. But, I would rank him 1st in game planning, or at least 2nd behind Tubby; probably 2nd behind Spurrier on in game coaching; and about tied with Saban for 1st in recruiting.

Thats because earlier in the drive our big dumbass qb J Russ didn't run out of bounds to stop the f'ng clock around midfield. Or he took a sack, I have tried to block it out of my memory, or got tackled at the line......whatfrickingever.....he didnt stop the clock and it cost us at the end.

This bull crap needs to stop!

It is getting old and it is hurting the perception of LSU Football with the kids being recruited.

Say what you want it is not going to happen before the end of next year. So let's use this board to help in recruiting insted of hurting it. You are not hurting Les Miles you are hurting LSU.

Why hurt the program for your own selfish reasons, if you can not back the program go somewhere else and hurt their program not LSU's.

I say
