Doesn't deserve it, IMO.

quote:This is no knock on Peterson as he was an amazing player for LSU, but why would LSU retire the number of someone who never graduated, didn't complete his eligibility, didn't win the Heisman (debatable qualifier admittedly, but precedent in LSU football history) and was never part of an SEC Championship or National Championship team?
Think Peterson gets his number retired by LSU?
Dorsey has way more argument for a retired number than Peterson, and I don't think Dorsey deserves it either.

In the history of LSU football, only two men have managed this feat. The first is Billy Cannon. The second is Tommy Casanova.
In Tiger lore, I don't think that Peterson belongs up there. In recent years, I think the only real candidates would be Russell, Dorsey, and Peterson based on what each accomplished here. But none of those names seem worth either.
It'll take a truly special player for that to happen again. And we probably won't see one this decade.

Mr. Hester wants you to remember his Flordia game.

Not Russell.

Get rid of the Oakland experience and tell me he doesn't deserve it. I'd argue it was a real snub that he didn't win the Heisman in 2006.
ETA: Deserve to be in the argument, I do not believe he deserves his jersey retired, either.

Seriously?
I think the candidates for their numbers to be retired would be Charles Alexander (the RB, obviously), and Dorsey. Guys right on the outside of the list would be Faulk, Faneca, and Stovall. Peterson would follow that list with a few others.

Consider the Oakland disaster forever removed from my brain.
He doesn’t deserve to have his number retired, not even considered.

Had three decent years, two above average. Never won the championship though. Doesn't deserve to be in the running.

Then Dorsey, ONLY!
The Russell debate is ridiculous to even mention. Yes, he had pretty good stats, but nowhere near him getting his number retired.
I would vote Peterson before Russell, and I don't think he should be either. I would probably retire Josh Reed's number before either of them. Not sure if he is recent enough for you, though.

Reed and Clayton were beast.

I'm more thinking his douche antics will make him somewhat of a target.

Thanks to the Cardinals for preventing world domination. Suh + Fairley + Peterson
I think someone is missing the point of this post. If Lions had drafted PP7, they would have traded their #1 to the cardinals. They would not have drafted Fairley.

Lions are much better off with the big DT they got plus the big DT from NEB they got last year. They were last against the run last year.

Definitely maybe! However if he does really well in the MFL it will happen for perception purposes
