I wonder how many SEC Coaches voted us ahead of Auburn in this poll but voted for Auburn to win the SEC East?

I think the two are mutally exclusive. Rankings are based on how good you believe the team is. Placing is based on who you believe will win the necessary games to take the division. Ie, Tennessee last year was ranked lower than UGA and I think even UF but they won the East.

UGA with 9. No way in hell they make it through that schedule unscathed.

Huh? Can Auburn win the East? Impossible since they are in the West.

Rankings shouldn't measure how talented a team is, but how much they deserve to be there. The poll should stay the same from last year.

Georgia could blow it against SS and the 'Cocks. Either USC or tOSU will lose (I think it'll be tOSU losing), so LSU could be ranked #4 when we play Auburn, but I don't see Auburn moving any higher than #10.

Win that game, coupled with Georgia losing to Arizona State that day and Florida losing to Tennessee and we could be #2 or #3 by the end of the 4th week.

How in the world did michigan crack the top 25?

I've never been one to be on bama's side but damn. I can't believe that they're on the outside looking in with teams like michigan and fresno state ahead of them.

yeah the preseason poll sucks. SC, bama, and Florida state will bumping some people out of the top 25 imho. It seems like the top fifteen is who they think may have a shot at the title and the last ten is charity. The ones who didn't make the 25 who are better than some that did...did not play good politics.

I agree - they were playing well down the stretch, but there is very likely going to be a steep drop in Athens....

You did see that Bama dropped 4 games in a row to finish the regular season last year? Top 25 teams never do that. Yeah, Michigan lost to Appy, but that was one game (analagous to USC losing to Stanford - maybe not as bad), and they won a bunch down the stretch, and finished with 9 wins. Bama was lucky to even get into a bowl to finish 7-6.

Based on objective evidence:

2008 Pre-season --- Michigan > Bama

#6... I'm good with that for "pre-season", any others ahead of us or behind us have to earn it just like we do.

Oklahoma is sitting very pretty in this poll, they are the only team in the top 6 that doesnt play another top six team.

Could be a blessing or a curse. If they lose, a loss will hurt them worse that the other teams who might have a loss to one of the other top 6 teams. It only helps if they don't lose.

USC will replace UGA as #1 after week 1. They are only separated by 8 votes/points in the polls. USC has a better opponent in game 1, Virginia, than UGA who has Ga. Southern. Now after week 2 with USC off and UGA playing Central Michigan, UGA could overtake USC as #1 again. We will see what happens though. LSU wil be a BCS bowl game contestant though. I think the SEC could possibly sneak 3 teams, UGA, FLA, and LSU all in bcs for the first time in the history of the BCS system

I love our position, I really did not want us ranked in the top 5. Poor Georgia gets to carry the #1 ranking with them into the season. I expect them to have 1 or 2 loses by mid season with that target on their back. It sure would be nice to be two #1 teams this year in Florida and Georgia. I smell BCS bowl or better.

If you are asking if OU is that good, the answer is yes. Oklahoma sports arguably the best O-Line in the country, has two very talented RBs, a great QB and two very talented WRs. Their TE is nails. Their D is coached and built by Bobby Stoops. Have no doubt, Oklahoma is a contender if the sticks fall in the right order. They will play #10 Texas, who likely be higher by that point and will provide the best test. I do believe my boys can beat Oklahoma
