who should be making the money is TM7 when he graduates and the Randall dude on youtube that started the whole honey badger thing. Without him no one would even know what a honey badger was.

It's not about the damned money it's about making sure HB7 can play. If we are not compliant, he becomes ineligible. Is that what you want? We are so close to a record season let's not blow it because of stupid shite!!!

I'm pretty sure he gets a college degree.
(if he want's it.)

What if we just had the number 7, and a "TM"(trademark) symbol in front of it? Or what about seven pics of honey badgers?

NCAA= National Communist Athletic Association.
Seriously, the only thing they can frown upon is the use of the university name: LSU
the Name or likeness of Tyrann Mathieu
and perhaps TM7.
LSU and the NCAA have no exclusive rights whatsoever to the colors purple and gold, Honey Badger, the number 7, or HB7. all those should fall under public domain, same as the Who Dat thing a few years ago.
I am curious as to the timing of this, as it seems to have a feel of trying to make our best player ineligible right before a certain contest with a certain coach that will stoop to anything to win a NC, such as vote down a more deserving team...

this is bullshite. TM7? does LSU have the rights to TM7? they make millions off these kids but small businesses can't make a dime...
Gawt Damn. Can any of you people READ???
Seriously? This isn't LSU saying, "Hey, we want that money, you have to stop selling it so we can make the money."
This is an NCAA COMPLIANCE issue that could impact HB7's eligibility. This isn't that hard to understand.

Title:12.5.2.2 - Use of a Student-Athlete's Name or Picture Without Knowledge or Permission. If a student-athlete's name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., T-shirts, sweatshirts, serving trays, playing cards, posters) or is used to promote a commercial product sold by an individual or agency without the student-athlete's knowledge or permission, the student-athlete (or the institution acting on behalf of the student-athlete) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics. Such steps are not required in cases in which a student-athlete's photograph is sold by an individual or agency (e.g., private photographer, news agency) for private use. (Revised: 1/11/97, 5/12/05)

Solid logic. Fans don't care that one of the most exciting players on the team is declared ineligibe simply because LSU failed to

LSU owns the number 7.
Surprisingly, Hofstra owns the number 1.
Duke owns the number 2.
Medfield College owns the number 3.
Faber College owns the number 4.
Loma Linda University owns the number 5.
New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology owns the number 6.
LSU owns the number 7.
Caltech owns the number 8 (and infinity).
Harvey Mudd College owns the number 9.

No -- it is all about the "message" that the shirt/advertisement is supposed to convey. When you combine several things together "LSU colors, a honey badger, his number" you are pretty much singling out Tyrann Mathieu, the student athlete.
Simple fact is, the NCAA does not have the resources to go out and verify if a player has any associations with anyone producing these shirts. So, what they do is tell the schools, "Look, if you see unlicensed apparrel being sold that has any perceived tie-ins to a player of your school, you have to try to stop it."
This is all in an effort to prevent a player from doing actions specifically for marketing purposes and gaining a financial edge over another student-athlete.
Hypothetical (that means "made up" for some people here): What if Tebow, back in the day purposely started the "tebow kneel" just for the sole purpose of getting a company he is associated with to print tshirts with him doing it. All for his own financial benefits. That would fall under unfair financial assistance under NCAA.
I'm not saying that it is right. I'm not saying that I agree with it. But, it is what it is. LSU is simply taking necessary steps to make sure HB7 keeps his eligibility.

I know someone in the shirt business, and LSU does have rights to the "Official" LSU colors.
Posted on 12/8/11 at 12:38 pm to BlackHelicopterPilot
A good lawyer would have a field day with that! He doesn't have any copyrighted or trademarked images or sayings on it that belong to LSU. They are just trying to scare people into believing they can stop you from making money off of it.
Posted on 12/8/11 at 12:41 pm to geauxaddai
So if you make it yourself and there is zero money involved... can you wear it?

These C&D's are overbroad and should not hold up in court.
They are designed, like the H'Badge, to intimidate.
The 'Badge, however , can deliver.
Screw em

I hope most of our fanbase isn't this shortsighted & ignorant. Anything w/ his likeness or jersey number is off limits. Would you wanna risk the single greatest season in LSU football history so some jackass can make a few bucks on HB7 shirts?
And the question is, where does it say LSU on these products? The name Honey Badger and the number 7 are not trademarked by the university, so the NCAA and LSU have no say so on who can use them or how. Now the first time someone puts one out with the letters L S and U on it, then you have problems. Ask the NFL how hard it is to make these types of things stick.

lol
overreacting rantards are overreacting.
you will still find HB #7 shite underground and on the interwebzzzz.
you will not be required to throw your shirt away at the BCS game by the TSA before entering the dome.
TM7 will not be banned by the NCAA because people are showing up in non-LSU-approved gear with his number and 'honey badger' images.
lsu just did the CYA press release to ensure compliance with ncaa and life will move forward exactly as it always has.
lulz
