2011 team could possibly be best college football team of all times. Your thoughts!
Regarding regular-season accomplishments, you will NEVER find a team that came close to this:
- defeated the Pac 12 champion (by 13)
- defeated the Big East champion (by 26)
- defeated the eventual national champion
- defeated the SEC East champion (by 32)
- defeated THREE Top Three teams (rank at game-time)
- defeated EIGHT Top 25 teams (rank at game-time)
Not one CFB team, over 100+ years, can come CLOSE to that resume'.

A forgotten gem? While the bowl game went no way any LSU fan wanted, to say it's forgotten is ludicrous. The above poster has the stats correct. Miles won the SEC twice. Not the west, the SEC. He won a national championship.
Before you bring up the "but it was with Saban's players," keep in mind that with his own players in 2011 he led his team to an undefeated regular season and to another national championship appearance. That includes beating Alabama on the road.
We got hosed in the BCS matchups. We beat Alabama in their house, that win should've counted for more than it did. I will never change my stance on that.
Bama should've gone to the Sugar.

Argument to be made that they had the best regular season of any College football team ever.
The first 13 games were phenomenal.
LSU beat UGA in the SECCG by 32 points.
LSU played 4 teams outside of Bama that finished the season ranked 20th or better (two being in the top 6). LSU beat each of those 4 teams by no less than 13 points.
LSU beat 3 teams total that finished ranked in the top 6. In 10 of those 13 wins LSU won by at least 24 points. In 12 of those 13 wins, LSU won by at least 13 points.
LSU beat the national championship winner, the Orange bowl winner, and the Rose Bowl winner.
The defense ranked #2 in scoring and #2 in total defense even though they played five games against the top 31 total offenses and 5 games vs the top 20 scoring offenses,
That nation championship will go down as one of the worst choke jobs in all of sports history. That was a historic team, that was a historic season, the finale was a historic let down. It was like divine punishment for being the first and only 2 loss national champion.
That team had 5 first round starters, 4 on defense alone (would have had 8 in total had Mathieu not gotten himself in trouble, Montgomery had not failed the interviews, and La'El didn't get caught up in some bullshite case days before the draft). The top 3 CBs were drafted in the top 3 rounds in addition to a starting safety going in the forth, and the other starting safety being a first rounder. The entire starting DL went in the top 3 rounds. i can't remember the exact starting OL, but I do know La'El started.
Where the hell is our reversal of fortune?

A forgotten gem? On the 15th you said in one of your posts that Miles was a fricking disaster. If that's the case (in your eyes), how the hell could he have had a season that could be looked upon as a gem?
You need to start taking meds to help with your bipolar personality, or stop taking the meds you may be on. You're all over the fricking place with your opinions.
Losing the NC game was a damn shame, and any LSU fan should admit that. But saying the 20111 season is a "forgotten gem" is ludicrous.

Yep hard to beat em twice, especially with a Championship on the line!!!

Lost to a shitty UF team, and mauck tried to throw that championship game away. He was awful that day.
2011 was the toughest schedule LSU has ever played. 03 schedule wasn't even in the same stratosphere.

Is that what I asked? If you're arguing how great a team is, when you have a month to prepare for a team and don't cross midfield..? Great teams don't do that. We might not have went undefeated in '03 or '07, but we were obviously the best teams those years. When we had a month to prepare for Oklahoma and Ohio State, we handled business...like a great team would.

Just because we did it once don't make it any easier. Also Satan was coach in 03 mI say that because some here talk about coaches having a month to get ready. Well Satan did it for us in 2003 and against us in 2011
Posted on 6/17/18 at 10:20 pm to LSU49er
Ok so why did we lose to a shitty Kentucky team?

2003 lost to crappy ur team and 2007 shitty Kentucky team. I think all three teams were very good but 2011 best.

Like I said, if a great team has a month to prepare, they at least show tf up

Mine is very much a minority opinion on this board, but I think 2007 was our best team when reasonably healthy. The injuries piled up the team--especially on D--was no longer dominant as the season progressed, which led to a couple of triple OT shootout losses to inferior opponents. 2007, though, had tremendous balance on offense and defense, and could both run and throw. Probably the two best examples of what that team could do when reasonably healthy were the wipeout of a good Va. Tech team and the mugging of a one-loss Ohio State team after a slow start.

Yeah 07 doesn’t get nearly the respect it should, likely because of the two loss NC.
You’re probably right, I don’t know that we’ve had a more balanced offense/defense than that group.
Outstanding running game, really good QB and WRs that could throw it around and light up the score board.
Defense was very very good as well, especially before Dorsey got banged up. Maybe not as shutdown as the 03, 06, or 11 defenses, but created a lot of turnovers and always harassed QBs.
But I would stack that 07 offense a little ahead of those other years, even 06 when we didn’t have a consistent rushing attack and depended on JR to take over games at times.

Literally ONE position away from realistically being the GOAT.

"06 when we didn’t have a consistent rushing attack and depended on JR to take over games at times."
2006 had a tough road schedule and had a couple of clunkers, especially on offense against Auburn and Florida. But that team was NASTY by the end of the year, with Russell slinging it around to 1st round draft picks and Keiland Williams did some fine work carrying the ball, as well. Very good defense, too. I don't think we would have been ranked high enough with 2 losses that year to make a 4 team playoff, but 2006 is the sort of team that would be very dangerous if they ever went to, say, an 8-team playoff because with they were playing at the end of the year. And my goodness, did they ever lay it on Notre Dame in the Sugar.
