They still come out millions ahead..
Obviously NBC thinks the players are worth more or they wouldn't invest in it.. Don't blame the stars for wising up to it as well.
College athletics isn't a money maker for most schools. Few make money. Football revenues are the tail that wags the dog.
College football players are not getting a raw deal.

Yea, these players were definitely paid for the interviews. That is definitely worth noting.
Do you have a link for this?
Just asking because Brooks from sportsbybrooks said on the radio that none of the players were paid by HBO.
And Kenny Rogers (the MSU one) was supposed to be on but he wanted money so they axed his segment...
Supposedly

quote:Actually, it would be like the movie producers saying that. And if that's all any movie producer was willing to pay him, then that's all he would (and should) get. There's no rule saying he would have to accept it just because that's all that is offered. Just like there is no law saying these kids have to accept the only deal out there for their services. They can turn down the offers from the NCAA members and market any of their skills to anyone and the NCAA doesn't care in the least. It's only after they choose to ACCEPT the NCAA's offer for their services that the NCAA expects them to abide by the rules attached to them.
it would be like the film actors guild or whatever saying.. tom cruise.. you are to be paid 500 thousand dollars a year
There's no rule or law that has prohibited any athlete playing NCAA football from marketing whatever skills he has to anyone else. If some rich guy wants to pay Cam Newton a million dollars to play football, he can. And it wouldn't violate any NCAA rules. It's only if he CHOOSES to play NCAA football and THEN breaks the rules by accepting money that there is an issue.
So how exactly is it unfair to any of them? If you're answer is, "because somebody is making more money off of their efforts than they are getting paid," then you basically disagree with the entire concept of "employment."

Personally, I think athletes should be paid, the existing rules are ridiculous. That said, it should be above board.
this won't solve a damn thing. paying them will not stop the "money handshake". it will not stop illegal recruiting either. like a $100 per week will magically turn all boosters and all athletes honest as the pure driven snow. there are many other problems assosiated with paying college athletes. there really is no way to stop it; even elimanating schollies will not stop it. morality is what it is and it cannot be changed. some people are honest and some aren't. even honest people make poor judgements at times.
